ups sorry. the win32 folder is inside the "knots" folder of the git checkout.

so the dll should be in the folder c:\knots\win32 if you followed the wiki instructions

No. the alarm daemon will be started at boot via a rc script. (depending on the runlevel, it's in one of the rc0.d - rc6.d folders under /etc )

knots client can be pretty useful also without a server at all. I use it as a thumb friendly mplayer frontend all the time.
