Thumbs up Re: Are you getting a Pandora console?

They showed full-blown Ubuntu 8 running on it. If they don't want to implement an apt-get or whatever repository, I'm sure someone else will.

Re: Are you getting a Pandora console?

Hell, yes. Like my 800, but kbd, much faster, 10 hr battery, USB slave and master. I can't imagine why the game controllers might be an issue. At most, you ignore them (but prolly you use them for...

[KDE] How to fix fonts in browser after KDE install

The thread about the KDE install is getting very long. Somone who starts at the beginning and wants to install KDE will probably strike the "browser changes to courier" font problem.

So I thought...

Re: Post-KDE: browser launch -> "error while loading shared libraries

Restarted again and it's fine. Weird.

Note that I was able to launch both browser and KDE immediately after installing KDE. Also that when this was happening, I couldn't launch KDE either.

Post-KDE: browser launch -> "error while loading shared libraries

After installing KDE and rebooting, when I try to launch browser from the shell (nothing happens from the menu), I get:

Re: [app] N800 Camera Motion Detector w/HTTP server

I'd just like to point out that at $220, an N800 competes pretty well in price with dedicated video server cameras.

And in response to "why would I leave the camera behind", this will be useful...

Re: Control panel won't open

Well, that's weird: it opens from the shell, but not the menu.

And how do I work out what the command is for an arbitrary menu item, if you'd be so kind.

The Control Panel - loading wossname appears, then goes away and nothing.

Other than a general plea for ideas, I have two further thoughts:
- is there a log somewwhere I could look...

Mouse support going backward?

I've previously tried pairing with my BT mouse under 2K7. It actually worked; the only problem was that the pointer was invisible.

But I can't even pair under 2K8.

This is a real pity: mouse...

Application manager: now with ten times the flakiness

Just installed 2K8 on my 800.

Don't notice any extra speed. Nor any significant extra features.

And Application Manager crashed on me six times before I got the apps I wanted installed.

What...

Re: N800 is piece of crap

I love my N800, but I gotta say:
- a Linux computer ought not crash. My whole machine goes down about once a week, and apps are always crashing. The machine going down looks like dud drivers. Sure...

Re: N800 canceled?

It was onsale.com. My friend said he called them, which was when he was told they were canceling the unit.

So I give you a 30% chance it's actually true, but I thought I'd mention it in case...

Re: N800 canceled?

Yes, indeed. I could see myself keeping this thing for years. It plays movies and music really well; its capacity will keep expanding as SD cards get cheaper. The software will keep improving.

It...

N800 canceled?

A friend of mine just had his N800 order canceled. The store told him that Nokia was not making them any more.

Buy.com showed one left this afternoon. Maybe it's right? I think it's a shame; the...

The "Ghetto" bt keyboard hack

I've just implemented a very satisfactory scheme, which has removed any 810 keyboard envy I had. Big time.

It looks a bit ghetto, but works very well.

I put thin strips of velcro across the...

Re: New OS, New Look

I don't understand. I eventually found my way into preferences in the wiki, which offered a choice between "broken" (what we have now) and "ugly", "uglier", "really ugly" and "just kill yourself...

Re: New OS, New Look

Love the site, appreciate all the work. But really: when it's not usable on at least 50% of the machines it's *about*, that's -- I don't know? Tragedy? Irony? Philately?

It's sad and stupid,...

Re: Wanted: 4.5" x 2.5" BT keyboard

The frogpad is an interesting design. But I think it's too thick for what I want.

My Dell folding keyboard has a stand thing built in. I'm starting to think that with velcro, I could attach the...

Re: Wanted: 4.5" x 2.5" BT keyboard

Here's the thing. I have something similar to that. What I want is a way to use a keyboard walking around. Those fold-out ones are *great*, but not really suited to that.

The freedom mini duo...

Re: Wanted: 4.5" x 2.5" BT keyboard

Are you talking about the Freedom Slim Keypad? That looks like it *might* be okay. OTOH, if it's $100, I'm going to keep thinking about a case that will just hold my folding BT keyboard.

I forgot...

Re: Wanted: 4.5" x 2.5" BT keyboard

That looks *much* too thick, but otherwise isn't too bad.

I think I'm leaning to trying to make a case that would hold my BT keyboard and tablet. The 810's single card slot -- let alone its only...

Re: Wanted: 4.5" x 2.5" BT keyboard

Obviously, I'd settle for something close to that size. At least, smaller than that size.

Basically, I want the 810 keyboard, only with bigger keys and no D pad, with BT.

I could *almost* make...
