This behaviour might be the result of the battery's fuel gauge getting out of sync. See for example the section "Calibrate the notebook PC battery" here:

Of course, no one really knows how Li-Ion batteries work, so this procedure might lower you battery's capacity, instead of calibrating the fuel gauge.

So basically, it says to fully charge the battery, make sure the device doesn't go to sleep, while you fully discharge the battery, and then you fully charge it again. That doesn't seem so risky. Probably the easiest way to make sure it doesn't go to sleep and to make the battery discharge fast is to play a long video, right?

i know nothing and may be blowing smoke out of my you know what... but the oem batteries are not Li-Ion but are Li-Polymer see http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Lithium-polymer "When compared to the lithium-ion battery, Li-poly has a greater life cycle degradation rate. However, in recent years, manufacturers have been declaring upwards of 500 charge-discharge cycles before the capacity drops to 80%"

Even better, stream a video over WiFi, over and over again. Write a script that just keeps looping:

Code:
mplayer http://some.video.site/video.wmv
I guess you could also just play something on WorldTV99 or something.

That should sap the battery quickly.

Running the Map application (with the GPS on?) seems to keep it "on" forever.

There is supposed to be some light sensor function with this advanced battery app, right?

I don't have that. I have an N810

And this feature (which I did a quick hack in python):

Pause when the charger is disconnected and play when it starts (like when using a car charger).

No problem. It will be a part of "User controlled event handling", so I put a note about it in my roadmap.

Interesting, so that means a device of 1,5 years old has about a battery life of 80% which is still reasonably good. If you keep that in mind and you really need 2 hours with your laptop while it only gives that when you initially bought it thats a big problem. But if your phone goes from 2 days to 1,5 days while you load it up every day anyway that is not an issue.
