http://mirrors.dotsrc.org/kde-applic...ilfish_OS.webm

after 16:00 they are saying that they keep the ui closed because they don't want "somebody else to take their stuff".
we can understand that it won't be at least completely closed in the future.

...an interesting move by Ubuntu. That hardware sounds mighty fine, take a bite of it Jolla, pretty please

Ubuntu Edge smartphone announced with $32 million Indiegogo campaign, aims to hit market in May 2014

Ubuntu's smartphone strategy is taking shape today in form of the Edge, which is set to come to market in May of next year, when it'll be available for $830 outright. True to Canonical's community driven roots, the company is turning to crowd-funding to get the device on its feet; to that end, it's launching a campaign on Indiegogo today, which provides early backers the opportunity to snag the phone for $600. According to company founder, Mark Shuttleworth, the Indiegogo strategy isn't meant to compete with its strategy of courting carriers, but rather, it's meant to solve an "innovation gap" that's arisen during its talks with manufacturers.

Key to the Ubuntu Edge is the aim to bridge the cap between mobile phones and PCs. To accomplish that, the Edge will be designed to run a full-fledged Ubuntu desktop operating system alongside Android. While specs are currently tentative, the company is aiming to outfit the Edge with a quad-core CPU, 4GB of RAM and 128GB of storage. Meanwhile, the phone itself will sport a 4.5-inch, 1,280 x 720 display that's constructed of sapphire crystal glass, an 8MP rear / 2MP front-facing camera and stereo speakers. As for connectivity, Canonical's eyeing LTE connectivity, dual-band WiFi, Bluetooth 4.0 and NFC, along with MHL support for HDTVs and the like.

Comparing it to Jolla's device it was € 399 ($ ~510) vs € ~460 ($ ~600) [prices calculated on the 1 day deal]...a bunch of neat hardware in the Ubuntu phone.

Bold move (if truly accurate), this may really steal Jolla's thunder (tragically), if there's one thing Mark knows, it's marketing/spin, he styles himself after Job's.

The $600 24 hour deal sounds really attractive - especially considering for an extra $30 they will ship to anywhere in the world. That alone is a big advantage over Jolla. It's unfortunate that I don't have $600 to put into this right now, or I would definitely back them.

That phone has fail written all over it. What are they thinking? $830 in stores? Nobody except a few freaks will be interested in the docking feature, sorry. In addition, while dual boot is cool for the consumer, for a software developer who wants to show off his new OS its a no-go.

IMO Jolla has the right ideas, one can only hope the execution is good. For example the back covers, has great potential IMO. Not primarily for a keyboard, but for creative stuff. They should hire some designers which do some really cool covers, for example with OLED lighting.

This phone won't show up in stores at all. Either this model will be founded in the next 31 days with $ 32.000.000 or it won't be released at all.
Everyone who pledged $600 today or $830 the next days will get one of those exclusive models.

The iPhone 5 with 64gb is $849 unlocked in the Apple online store.
Some freaks are even buying it
