Hey guys, look at this http://www.engadget.com/2012/01/06/a...tor/#continued

It would be awesome to make it work on the N900 wouldn't it. Easy Debian comes to mind

If drivers exist in linux kernel 2.6.28, then possibly.

In other cases, one need to use USB VGA/HDMI cards. Some are now as cheap as 30-40$ used, but the trick is to get on wit available linux drivers or working with already present modules.

// Edit

the main problem with USB 22' monitor, is that it isn't quite portable For N900, i would rather prefer something, that allow me to connect to VGA-compliant monitors/TV's already present somewhere, than carrying my own monitor with me...

Yet, USB mini-projector with linux drivers could be very interesting.

Why not just use the TV out jack?

Because TV-Out jacks result in image quality so low, that it can't even be compared to our native 800x480 resolution (google for specific numbers - PAL have a little better results than NTSC, but difference is minimal). Have You ever tried to use Easy Debian, with n900 connected via TV-Out? Write something on LibreOffice or Chromium (or Iceweasel)?

For me, ability to output via VGA (DVI/HDMI would be nice addition, but not necessary) would be one of top useful things that we may achieve.

It's limited to non-HD resolutions.

Not sure if serious or trolling.

Ageed, except that PAL (768x576), and even worse NTSC (720x480), isn't even regular resolution, so lets leave HD alone. I wall rather call it non-usable, at least for purposes involving text (for writing videos, it's so-so).

// Edit

The fun thing about using so-called USB-VGA, is that - besides being able to use VGA at all - image processing is done on card itself, with some (varying between cards) aid from CPU. Basically, they're simple, external graphic cards. That mean, we can - using good USB VGA - get 1680x1050 (or higher) resolution from our n900, without much affect on performance. Heck, personally I would be crazily happy penguin with 1024x600 on external screen through VGA...

Understood. I usually just use ssh and VNC at 200% full screen...but then again, that's tethered to my old tablet PC. The stylus works like I'm actually on the phone, swipe and all. It still dazzles me.

This may be also interesting (especially, that it seems it's going to come true!):
