Re: Commercial ebook reader

Make sure you have the very latest version of FBReader (0.12.10-27 I believe). After the recent flurry of updates it's damned well close to being a perfect smartphone reader.

IMHO, of course.

Re: Commercial ebook reader

Nope, just locate the downloaded file - save to your desktop for example - and copy that onto a directory on your N900.

Then start the Dorian application, tap on the icon that looks like a little...

Re: Commercial ebook reader

Well, an EPUB file IS a zip-archive, so that isn't too surprising. Try, to ensure the book is properly downloaded, installing the epubreader extension for Firefox, and use that to open the file.

Re: Help, proof of delivery for messages

Did you perchance try the "Receive SMS delivery reports" in "Settings" for "Conversations"?

It works perfectly - thank you! :)

Very few things remain before I, personally atleast, consider FBreader THE single best ebook reader out there ...

Excellent. I'll test it as soon as my N900 finds the repositories again :( In the meantime, big thanks for lots of good work :)

Exclamation Re: New FBReader build in Extras-Devel

I'm ... speechless. Ok. Will you add an upstreams bug, or shall I?

Thanks for looking into this, tho. Atleast I've got a workaround until the ... problem can be fixed.

Re: New FBReader build in Extras-Devel

Done. Verified rendering in Calibre's ebook-viewer and the Mozilla 'epubreader' extension'.

Question Re: New FBReader build in Extras-Devel

Thought. Rob1n, can you tell me - I can read source, but you know it better - what level of support FBReader have for CSS in terms of its inclusion?

i.e. does it support STYLE elements? Or just...

Unhappy Re: New FBReader build in Extras-Devel

I've just tested this with a Calibre-produced ePub, which sports a CSS with text-indent and margin-top on paragraphs. The text-indent still works; the margin top ... not so much. Alas :(

Can't say...

Re: New FBReader build in Extras-Devel

Having an odd problem here. As mentioned, FBreader has a problem with the CSS involved in epubs. I can't seem to get it to add a margin between paragraphs.

However: I just tried adding the same in...

Re: New FBReader build in Extras-Devel

Was afraid of that :( At the moment I'm experiencing the irony of a free Black Library book managing a very nice first-line indent and a 0.5em margin-top; while a book produced from XHTML by Calibre...

Thumbs up Re: New FBReader build in Extras-Devel

You can turn the N900 to 'upside portrait', for lack of a better phrase, and set FBReader to turn its display the same way. Then you have the volume rockers with which to page up and down under your...

Re: New FBReader build in Extras-Devel

Speaking of ePub-files: is there anything documented on the support for CSS? I'm having a hell of a time getting top and bottom margins to take effect :(

That said: kudos, and plenty of it, for...

Re: Searching for a headset, looking at my needs & what would work best.

To be honest I'd look at the noise-cancelling BH-905s. Excellent value for money, and work reasonably well for both music and voice with the N900.

Re: N900's one major shortcoming: ToDo List

And here is where we differ in opinion. The 'eye candy' you speak of has, many times, benefits in terms of productivity. Such as the icons for contacts.

We were, however, talking of the task...

Re: I will stick with N900

Depends entirely on the specs of the N9, and of the OS it runs. If it is better than the N900, then, perhaps, we'll replace ours (we use the N900 as company phones/PDAs). When we get a good deal on...

Re: N900's one major shortcoming: ToDo List

Excellent. Now compare it to AgendusPro, and you'll quickly notice a difference.

If emacs cover your needs, great. Despite being a long-term emacs user, a todo-list it isn't. Not for me.

Re: N900's one major shortcoming: ToDo List

Can't say I care WHO makes it, but if anyone has the time and inclination I suggest taking inspiration from the excellent Palm AgendusPro application.

Re: N900's one major shortcoming: ToDo List

Well, it would need a widget - to start with - so that a quick overview of the tasks could be presented on a desktop. The e-mail widget that comes with Maemo is a good example; another is the...

Yes - and no. Nokia's support will go on for a while longer; personally I have another 18 months on my warranty, for example.

Nokia might not keep patching Maemo - but since they just DID, for the...

Question Re: N900's one major shortcoming: ToDo List

None, I have found, of practical value. This remains a serious shortcoming in the N900, at least for business use.

While this is, of course, a highly subjective topic, I find that the following...
