My .basilisk_ii_prefs contains a row "rom /home/user/QUAD650.ROM". All files have the permission 755...

Yes. That's why I urge Nokia to fix it ASAP. Can't be that hard to do it and would actually make Gnumeric usable for MS Excel files which my customers keep sending me. That way I could work on these...
