Re: How Can I Tell I'm Connected to the Network?

This doesn't help you if you're not using wlan :)

Frethop, check out libconic. There's a DBUS call you can make that will report back what you're connected to (if anything). I'll try to get you a...

Re: Request for comment: Full BT PAN support

Here's my first shot at debian integration.

Step one is to install dbus-scripts:
http://repository.maemo.org/extras-devel/dists/chinook/install/dbus-scripts.install

Step two, install the...

Request for comment: Full BT PAN support

So after some digging, it seems like it's possible to do the following:

Thanks to fanoush, starting/stopping BTPAN can be put in to a script....

Re: U.S. developers get go-ahead to buy N810, sort of

N810 received today. Been getting compliments all day at work from my WM6 and iPhone toting colleagues.

Will be producing an OS2008 Bluetooth PAN solution soon as penance for never believing I'd...

Re: U.S. developers get go-ahead to buy N810, sort of

The saga finally ends: new e-mail, new update, worked like some type of charm.

Had to call in and do all sorts of talking to get them to ship it to my office and not my home. Yay billing address!

tuncfg doesn't need to be copied to sbin, however, it does need to be run as root once per device boot.

I'll have to pull down the latest build, it sounds like the steps have changed, I'll post an...

Re: Anyone successful using DUN with Samsung T519 & T-Mobile?

Well, working on your laptop is good. I'd look up an Ubuntu/Debian/Fedora tethering guide for that phone, if you can find one: alternatively, try using an Ubuntu live CD (makes testing MUCH less...

Re: Can't add page to the wiki / making the Wiki more useful

Thoughts on titles:

Titles shouldn't have a category prefix: category pages solve that.

If it's a list, call it a list.
"List of Working GPS Devices"

If it's a howto, call it a howto.
"How...

Re: 2 770s- one worky, one not...

If both can get to 192.168.1.1 after a clean reflash, it's almost certainly the router. Both 770s are running the same revision of the OS, I take it.

Try the offending 770 on a different wireless...

Re: Map app. for directions work offline?

OS2008's map application, once you install the maps from the internet, shouldn't require a connection for computing routes: however, it is a pay service.

Re: streaming video problem

I routinely stream 22-minute shows, and even the occasional movie: where are you streaming from / what stream server are you using (TVersity, Orb)? Which app are you using (mplayer, Media Player,...

Re: Bluetooth to Verizon Phone for DUN Works

CAVEAT: I don't recommend this procedure at all. Reasons after the explanation :)

You need a memory card to do this one.

Gain root on your device --- there's a few ways to do this, installing...

Re: Nokia N800 Text 2 Speech

Grab a copy of flite --- it should be available in the default repositories, and if not, enable the disabled ones. (Can't remember it off the top of my head, and the device is at home.)

That said,...

Re: Widespread WiFi thread

The argument for ubiquitous internet is ubiquitous computing, a field in its infancy. The UX for continuous data usage is simply terrible. Once you change that, you can change the rest.

Re: best internet tablet

Your requirements are pretty modest, actually.

I'd go with either the N810, because you get the keyboard for rapid text entry and the best browser, or the N770, because the coveron/off is...

Pluthon is a fantastically convenient app for doing this with Python.

Re: USB 2.0 OTG on N810

Eventually you'll be able to connect a USB microphone to the IT, although it will require a powered hub. That said, high-quality (48khz 24-bit) recording is way, way beyond what the N800 can process...

http://n770galaxy.blogspot.com/ has some work on the subject.

Why, particularly, VLC? Where does MPlayer fall short? (I've got my own answers, but I'm interested in others.)
