What do you mean notify you? If you have unread mail then the Contacts tab will highlight.

if you use the stock "inbox" thingie, then the 'contacts' tab will highlight (actually it highlights if you have unread email at all i think) and it will play a sound.

Sound?
How can I set the sound in claws mail?
The reason I need it is because when I am arround work I need to hear a sound so I can know I have email... I usually walk arround with my n800 in my waist so I need a sound when email arrives... I dont care for visuals but for sound...

SeRi@lDiE, in the Preferences of Claws Mail, on the 'Receiving' page, you will find an option to run a command after a check for mail, use an appropriate command here.

The acpi_notifier plugin will probably be ported fairly soon.

Sadavyk: probably user error?!?

I forward all my mails to a gmail account and use the gmail notifier. Works perfect.
