My N900 currently has

Version of 'sw-release': RX-51_2009SE_20.2010.36-2.203.1_PR_203
NOLO version 1.4.14
Device RX-51, hardware revision 2101

and is sadly not booting. I am planning to re-flash but I can not find this image I can only find a PR1.2 version RX-51_2009SE_10.2010.19-1.203.1_PR_COMBINED_203_ARM.bin on Nokia's web page http://tablets-dev.nokia.com/nokia_N900.php

I have read that you can have problems if you try flashing an earlier version.

Anyone know where I can get the PR1.3 image, or if I can flash an earlier version ?

Try using Navifirm to get the firmware you need.

Did you try to flash the global variant. Seems to be the part of the universe fitting most, if there is no uk variant available from nokia .
Try using Navifirm to get the firmware you need.
I never ever would just execute some not further explained exe on my PC!!!

Just try changing one or two digits of your IMEI while attempting to download the FIASCO image from Nokia's website. The IMEI given doesn't change the files given on the page. Joking.

EDIT: I also don't see UK latest Maemo on the webpage. Try Over-The-Air update:
apt-get install mp-fremantle-generic-pr

@ michaaa62: The 'navifirm' software itself is well used, and I agree fully re being very wary of the sources of files.

@ Wikiwide: I think my last update was OTA. I'd be happy to flash with the latest PR1.2. from Nokia's site and then await for any subsequent OTA update to 1.3 - But, can you flash to an earlier version without problem ? I can't see any reason why not, but I've read that this can give problems

@ Guyver: Thanks I now have the image file for the version currently on phone:
RX-51_2009SE_20.2010.36-2.203.1_PR_COMBINED_203_ARM.bin

There were 3 other small files:
RX51_0593611_20.2010.36.2_006.dcp
RX51_0593611_20.2010.36.2_006.vpl
RX51_0593611_20.2010.36.2_006.signature.bin

I'd be keen to confirm the authenticity of the image file and believe these file may do just that, but I don't know how

Oh ! currently my phone is failing to boot at all but I can get it to connect in recovery/flash mode. I now just need to get a fully charged battery before I flash.

The '.203' indicates that it is UK version. I think '2010.36' is week 36 in 2010 so it is newish V20 (PR1.3)

What version is currently on your phone ?

I received a notice from Nokia. Run the Nokia upgrader and I got it. Surely you don't have to make everything more complicated...

The Nokia Software Updater does not find the USB attached phone it probably needs a booted phone to check and then do an update. My phone is not booting but it is responding to "Maemo Flasher".

I'm now impatiently awaiting delivery of new battery and external charger before attempting to flash in an image. The battery is not charging, but I think the phone has to at least partially boot for it to manage/charge the battery.

you could try this
unplug every thing, take the battery out of your phone

run the commands on your computer (cmd)
when it says waiting for a suitable device
plug the usb into your phone
hold the U key
put the battery in (keep holding the U key)

and wait for the magic :P

and i have pr1.3 global
