I had a similar issue with my P.O.S. (yes, it stands for what you think it does) laptop running Win98. The issue lay in the MTU (maximum transmission unit(?)) size, because of some stupid WiFi issue, the packetsize was over what my lappy would understand. Knocking it down to 1298 bytes/packet or so would work. I don't have a 770, so this may be entirely useless. Otherwise if you're road tripping to toronto, I'll buy 'er off you

Steps to install xterm on your Nokia 770:

1) go to this web site on your Nokia 770 browser:
http://770.fs-security.com/xterm/
2) click the link called "osso-xterm 0.11 for the 770" and save the file anyplace you wish
3) close your Nokia 770 browser app
4) click the third icon down on the left (under mail) and select "control panel"
5) click "Application Installer" icon to launch it
6) click "Install new" button
7) navigate to the file you just saved, and click it, then click the "open" button
8) click "ok" to install, click "ok" again when done, then click "close"

You should now have the application installed. To launch it, go to that third icon on left again, and go to "Extras". You should see xterm there.
