My first Qt/C++ app "Image Set Maker" is now available in Extras-devel, in the category user/utilities
Please first read the Extras-devel disclaimer here
Package page: http://maemo.org/packages/view/imagesetmaker/
It's not optified, I will do that in a next version

************************************************** **************
NOTE: I consider this app obsolete, since I won't update it anymore.
I've done a major update to Image Set Maker, which is now called Wallpaeper (here).
I recommend uninstalling ISM and installing Wallpaeper.

Improvements:
* No more 800x480 resolution check
* Option to manually set filename
* Spaces are now allowed in set-name and file-name
* ...some more things
************************************************** **************

The app is not mindblowing, but it sure is handy!

It saves you from typing the .desktop file for wallpapers.
1. Set a name
2. Select pictures
3. Press the save button
And you can select your set in the "Change background" desktop menu right away

It saves in this format:
Code:
[Desktop Entry]
Type=Background Image
Name=<name>
Hidden=true

X-File1=<image 1>
X-File2=<image 2>
X-File3=<image 3>
X-File4=<image 4>

X-Order=01
Features:
* Check if the loaded image is 800x480 pixels
* Previews of all selected images
* A copy button for using the same images multiple times
(Thanks to Bingley Joe for the feature request of using 1 image for all 4 screens!)
* Always saves in the default Images folder, with an overwrite prompt when needed
* Incomplete file protection, it only saves when everything is filled in

Screenshots!

You can copy an image: (multi-selectable)
(Thanks to Bingley Joe for this feature request!)

Or just select 4 different images, of course:

I'm currently working on v0.1.3-1, which will add:
- Version number in About screen
- Reset screen button in top menu
- Application icon
- Bugtracker link
- Updated description

By the way, the changelog doesn't show up.. I've edited debian/changelog and uploaded the .changes file, is there anything else I should do?

Hey, thanks for the shout-out I'm really liking what you've done with this app so far. It's definitely taken the chore out of making desktop packs for the device!

A couple of things I've noticed that would be nice:

- the app doesn't seem to have an icon, even after rebooting a couple of times

- it would be nice to have the option of creating invisible .desktop files -- just a simple checkbox somewhere near the 'save' button would probably be enough. (Later, if you're feeling ambitious, you could add the ability to manage .desktops so that it would be easier to delete the invisible files)

Otherwise this is damn-near perfect

Thanks I'm glad I made something useful!

And yes, I'll have to edit the App icon
I did something wrong with the needed base64 encoding of the .png file (need to remove the "=" characters at the end of the base64 code, I think)

Bingley, it's like you can read minds :P that invisible file idea also came across my mind, with a sort of manager for all the .desktop files.
An "Invisible" toggle checkbox will be in the next version!

Version 0.2-1 is now in extras-devel!

New in v0.2-1:
* About screen now shows version, icon and OK button
* Added "Reset screen" in top menu
* Full app name, in stead of package name, in application manager
* Added bugtracker link
* Updated app description
* Added "Invisible file" toggle checkbox
* Shorter text on save button, allows visibility for longer filenames
* Code optimisation

I don't know if the app icon will show up now, haven't tested it yet.
If not, it will be something for the next release
