As I write this the download counter is reading 9 633 709.

Of all of these programs downloaded what has been your favorite, your most useful download?

My favorite has been fMMS.
My most useful has been Linux kernel for power users.

As we approach 10,000,000 is there some functionality or feature that can be software enabled that you haven't seen yet?

Can we guesstimate from this how many N900´s are out there?

This counts only extra´s right? Not extras-devel and extras-testing??

I´ve probably got about 30-35 apps from Extra´s on my phone and have flashed and reinstalled 2-3 times. So I´m responsible for 100 downloads on my device, I´ve also flashed my fathers device 2 and downloaded about 15 apps each time so I´m responsible. Then there´s my wife´s so here we have 3 phones and about 150 download for them total, or 50 per piece.

That gives around 200.000 devices if that´s a good average for downloads per device, think there´s way more or way less?

AFAIK it's extras, exras-testing and extras-devel.

That number doesn't mean much IMO. It is the number of apps available.

For instance, on the TMO Maemo 5 page, around 270 downloads available on the counter. But these increment with every update. So how many unique downloads actually exist there, 100 maybe?

Pretty disappointing if you ask me.

I can't believe anyone would be proud of what is available. The quality of what is there is good, but it seems to have come to a screeching halt with the MeeGo announcement.

That's more to do with the PR1.2 thought. There's no reason why MeeGo would affect app development for N900 as the same apps work both ways as long as those are Qt based. We have known about the Qt being the thing for future of Maemo since Harmattan announcement in 2008 so it's no news.

I think each application is counted only once, not once per version.

Also, if you want to guess the number of users, it's the downloads you have to count, not the number of applications.

I suppose each update for an app that is downloaded by a user is also counted for this. So if the app is downloaded by 10 users and is updated once and all 10 users download the update, the count is 20.

are these counts really explained well somewhere ?
