I have been bashing my head against the wall on this one.

I am currently running Debian Squeeze AMD64, and would like to start learning to develop for my N900. The problem is that the tutorials for setting up the maemo-sdk are out of date.

Most of them refer to version 1.0.19 or 1.0.20. The current version at http://maemo-sdk.garage.maemo.org/do...e/free/binary/ is 1.0.22 as of November 26th, 2009.

I have managed to get up to the point that I can run 'maemo-sdk start gui' but then I get a black box.

Forums have suggested to run 'Xephyr :2 -host-cursor -screen 800x480 -dpi 96 -ac -kb' but the newer versions of xorg (and therefore Xephyr) don't accept the -kb command.

So I have tried exporting the display, and pretty much everything else I can find.

Anyone else have any success in running this combination?

Kind of silly to have packages for Debian-Squeeze 64 bit only to have them not work right.

I'm itching to try to port some apps from earlier versions of Maemo, and to port some other things (I'd love a native tn5250 and atari800 emulator.)

i'm running lenny on amd64, and i gave up on setting up the sdk on my native host.
get virtualbox and install some x86 environment there, then install the sdk. that's much better for your head and your wall

That's eventually what I did at work, but I really would like to get it to work outside of a virtual box. Figured someone somewhere would have managed to get this to work.

Pretty much any newer computer is 64bit and has more than 3GB of ram, and is also extremely fast at compiling. Kind of a waste of awesome hardware when you resort to needing a virtual machine.

You could also use a 32-bit chroot.

I can't help with this SDK stuff, because I only use the Maemo 5 SDK; and do not use Maemo SDK+.
