Now, since I did most of my testing on Polite (as it seemed to be the mode with the greatest success ratio) and with the APN settings correctly inserted, I have no idea if what fMMS shows me actually "counts" -- ie, don't know if even though fMMS shows empty fields for proxy (because the corresponding checkbox on the OS's connection settings is unchecked) it still manages to use the correct info.. Could you reproduce this on your N900 at all? Even if it's a cosmetic thing, unless getting that checkbox to go "active" is really tricky, it'd be nice to see, consistency-wise.
Alright I see what you mean now, after going to Internet Connections and actually saving changes after that the proxy is unset in fMMS because the system panel sets proxy_type to NONE, and when fMMS encounters this setting it clears any proxy settings saved. Basically, you shouldn't be needing to go in to that dialog as you can configure it all from fMMS ;-)

I'll see what I can do to get it to act properly, thanks for reporting!

EDIT: Think it's fixed: http://gitorious.org/fmms/fmms/commi...b3f2303d56649c

EDIT: Also, problems with messages "changing" in the listview should be fixed as well; http://gitorious.org/fmms/fmms/commi...1f18a77b966fe6

After that you'll see fmms.log in filemanager or when you connect the device to your desktop as a mass storage device.
E-mail the log to me, if you don't have the email address, drop me a PM. Thanks!

It seems fMMS improved stability over the last few releases, and configuration was not for humans. Automatic configuration based on operator should be doable.

Just one small thing; integration with the conversation widget is not one of the features, which seems to make sense as scope for a coming release. I get my sms, tweets, facebook chats and so on to this common message repository but fMMS keeps the messages separate from the rest.

is there a version history log somewhere?

Oh!! I had no idea I had installed that many versions of fmms (and I started at 0.4.0, so there were quite a few before that too)

I must say that you are doing one h*ll of a job here, frals.

fMMS 0.9.16 aka "no bugs reported by tomorrow evening and im going to -testing!":

* decoding utf8 in listviews description field
* setting proxytype to manual so its not removed when saving from system ui
* checks if a iap settings switch is needed after each apn unmask
