So I wanted to try Mer and downloaded the installer from http://wiki.maemo.org/Mer/Documentation/Installation. It adds the repositories fine, and then when the app manager wants to install it, it complains about a conflict with becomeroot.

Since a short search didn't bring this issue up, I post the question here: something wrong with my setup or is this a known issue?

Thanks,
Peter

Well, please come up with exact error messages here, otherwise this is all just about guessing...

And what does one need becomeroot for? I normally type "sudo gainroot" and I'm fine...

I thought becomeroot was part of the large amounts of allowed packages that allows sudo gainroot. I recommend rootsh though.

I thought I needed becomeroot to have the sudo gainroot functionality. It was one of the first things I installed, so my memory is a bit unclear about it.

But I tried removing becomeroot and sudo gainroot still works. So now I can continue with the install

thanks,
Peter
