Is apt-file available for Diablo (preferably in a safer repository than sdk)?

I just googled apt-file, and it seems to do the same thing as "apt-cache search" which Diablo already has...

I might be wrong about what apt-file is used for. If so, explain for me?

apt-file can tell you which package a certain file is in. Think of it as the "dpkg -S" for packages that aren't installed.

But, alas, apt-file is in perl which is always fun to package stuff wrt tablets...

I'm actually trying to use mobiperl but need apt-file to find out what deb files are necessary

Fortunately, packaging perl into debian apps is something of a specialty of mine :P

So I am happy to bring apt-file into Maemo since I think I will actually use it a lot as well.

It is more useful than apt-cache search since it searches for files inside packages, not just package names and descriptions like apt-cache search.
