I don't know how I missed it all this time (possibly b/c usually on my mac) but last night I just saw that you can browse Windows file shares in Filemanager in 2008.

What through me off was seeing the Samba stuff was not installable, so I guess I figured it was "on the way" and not here.

I did notice that the only way to refresh the shares seemed to be by reloading Filemanager, but perhaps I missed something.

So, I posting this because maybe someone else missed it and just needed a heading that was a little different. THIS is a very useful feature.

Are you able to see all of the shared directories on your Windows machine? I'm asking because, while I can see the shared drive (and access it), it's empty (i.e., all I can do is open the drive -- I can't actually see any other folders/files).

I can see all the shares on my Xp box. I just got browsing my XP shared folders working a few days ago. My issue was that my Norton firewall had to be configured to allow the N800 to access them. Before that I could not see any shares, not even the computer.

Tim, I can access the shares on 1 XP 64 PC and 2 Vista PCs. Vista took some configuring, of course.

Samba on linux will show as well providing your shares are set up correctly to allow anyone's access.

i guess i wont be able to browse them, as i enforce user-based security. there is no means to provide user/passwd credentials?
