Whilst someone here may well be able to help, you may get a quicker and more knowledgeable response from the VLC forums themselves, as it relates directly to enabling a feature of VLC on a PC platform.

Obv. if you get the answers you need post them or a link back here for those in the same position as yourself.

Here is the solution on windows Seven :

YOU CAN USE EASY VLC SETUP INSTALLATION :
http://hobbyistsoftware.com/VLCSetup.php
I didn't try but it should works! This help comes from vlc remote for iphone!

Otherwise

Open the .hosts file in (C:\Program Files (x86)\VideoLAN\VLC\http)
Il y a plusieurs type de réseau : localhost, link-local addresses, and add "192.168.0.12" at the end.

Then configure VLC by activate HTTP in option->interface.... ( read up)

And configure vlc-remote with your IP like this : 192.168.0.12:8080

A new version is comming soon!

I really like this remote. Hope there will be more development.

Maybe you could also implement support for not only VLC but for Media Player Classic which comes with a web server as well.

Anyway, keep up the great work!

There certainly has been. I just joined the team last Friday and we've been working solidly on new features all week. Should have a new release very soon.

Hmm, we'll have to look into this once we get this out of beta. Don;t want to lose sight of the initial goal. Whether it should be part of the same application or not may depend on how much commonality they share in interface and workflows.

Installed today, great work folks - love it so far. Thanks for the nifty utility.

There appears to be a volume bug, pressing the volume down decreases it stepwise but pressing the volume up jacks it up to max volume. Anyone else has noticed this?

Hi flydeep,

There's a major update that's just hit the extras-devel repo that fixes the volume issue but also introduces a whole bunch of new functionality we've been working on for the last couple of weeks:
Multiple vlc accounts
Playlist management
Browsing the remote filesystem
Support for album art
Support for adding per account favourites.

Try it out and let us know what you think.

There are a couple of things you can do to see if you've got vlc set up correctly.

1) On your PC. open a browser and go to http://127.0.0.1:8080 and you should see a simple media player interface. If not you won't be able to connect remotely.

2) if 1) worked. Open the browser on your n900 and got to http://YOUR.PC.IP.ADDRESS:8080 where you should see the same thing.

If 1) fails - vlc needs to have the http interface turned on.

if 2) fails - vlc needs to allow your IP address or you may have a firewall issue.

What OS and version of VLC do you use?
