Fail is not achieving your goal.

Maybe they have set a goal that is not unachievable?
At that price point it may not be about selling thousands but hundreds or even less?
Someone in this thread identified the device as already existing, maybe it costs them 200 to 400 bucks and what they sell is actually the software wetwork they already invested or plan to do.

Wise words that made me engage my grey matter.

So there is a difference between "success" (or failure) and "perceived success" (or failure).

I have been a tinkerer all my life. The goals of all my hobby projects have always been the joy of doing it and the learning experience. From my point of view, very few of them failed to achieve those goals. But for first my parents and now my spouse none of them achieved anything as I never made any money on them.

This. ^^^

It is not even advertised to be a phone or a tablet, it is a developer device and not even very badly priced as such.

You must be one huge failure in your parents eyes, since they invested tens (probably hundreds) of thousands of $CURRENCY in your upbringing and all they got back was some worthless joy in seeing you grow up.

Lets get a few things real clear
Real straight here.
Out of me, there is no picky whining.
Out of me, there has never been any picky whining.
Every time a new "product" "soon" to be released rears its head,
I ask the EXACT same things every time that I would out of any other consumer product on this planet.

1- "Does it perform according to it's own claims."

2- "Is this a product for sale now or is this an attempt to get free money out of people by using fund raising, and then "maybe" there "might" be the chance of the slimmest possibility of a product that "may" be for sale sometime in the unknowable future"

and lastly
3- "Are the exact same expectations out of the rest of the consumer world applied to this product. ie: Is support offered? Is it warrantied for any period of time at all? Any guarantees at all? of any kind?
you know....ALL THE SAME THINGS ONE EXPECTS WHEN ONE BUYS INTO ANYTHING ELSE ON THIS PLANET BUT MOBILE DEVICES IT SEEMS"

This is not whiny picking.
These are fundamentals.
This industry that has been picked up by start ups...as great as it is ..as innovative and fabulous as it is...
Is an ungoverned, unregulated, answerable - to -no - one , Wild West , where everyone has meekly accepted that there are no rules, no one answerable to, no real consequences.

And next.
Sulu..
I really suggest you step back from anything involving statements about another persons family and what you are projecting as to what they may or may not think.
That is dangerous waters you are swimming in.

True!
This was meant as a joke on how monetized people's success criteria are these days.
Sorry if I didn't make that clear enough!

Glad it was meant in jest sulu.

And back to the prime issue.
Has anyone here really thought through any of the countless possible consequences of eventually buying and possessing one of these marvelous (I have no doubt concerning some of them that they are indeed great innovative devices when finally they get to the end user...) unaccountable, unwarranted, small-team-with-stupidly-lean-budgets-that-could-only-do-the-most-limited-of-testings ...devices?

potential example 1 -
-you get the device in your hands.
-whatever span of time passes, little or great.
-whether it is off charger and starts a normal fire
or
it is on charger and has the potential for an electrical fire.
-possibly causing much damage.
-possibly destroying your home and contents.
-possibly causing loss of life, those around you, family, pets, yourself.

IF you are still alive after that possible example 1 ..
do you or your surviving family have any recourse?
Or does the start up have no responsibility for the devices they make?

As much as I like the innovation and the strides made by small enterprises, the hazards are greater than with a mega corp. at this time.

(and sure ...iphone and android phones have done exactly that, caught fire, caused loss of life, etc...
and THEY have the manpower and finances to spend making sure they are testing and retesting and re-retesting ..
.and are isolated in compare to what the numbers would be if they didn't spend the manpower and money and time...
but in the end...
these mega corps have funds set up to deal with the lawsuits and loss of life and damages from their devices....
THAT is part of what one is paying for when buying a warrantied and guaranteed device, it is also the knowledge that you or your surviving family have legal recourse that will end up accounting for that loss....)

I would hope amid all the enthusiasm for new toys...
that everyone soberly does a hard squinting look at the real possible price...

And now I am done for today.
Two posts in a row that are all serious-serious...
with no injection of wit at all...
are two too many ...
(I heard somewhere it causes cancer of the follicles or eye-stalks or some such)

yup.
But my wife is still happy about what "we" are doing.
The contrast does not have to be elon musk.
She is happy i am not hanging around with the "flatrate drinking at the local bar" and "4 month of carnival & Schützenfest are real life" guys

Your example is spot on imo.
From all i gather here i figure Necuno guys are tinkering nerds that at some point realized they have all puzzle pieces together to offer a secure system. Then thought about how to make a living from that specialisation.
I'd love to here their story. Judging from their marketing, there is not much foreign capital involved and investors to please

I am still wondering:

- Who is doing this phone? Who are the team members? There is no information at their site?
- Where is the open sourced code their are advertising?
- Device is ready? Where are videos someone using it?

My spiderman instinct remembers Turing phone and https://www.hubblephone.com/pre-order.

Is this the case?
