hi,

i used this great gps app from marcus bauer on my freerunner,
no i am not nostalgic:-)

i use it on my desktop to download quick big areas of map
sources. then i copy them in a single mountable image which i
transfer to my mobile device for offline usage. thats it.

can someone give it a try?

for screenshots, details and newest source code, see

Hi!

I always hated TangoGPS, though it was the best mapping application for the freerunner.

If you want to download maps for offline viewing on your desktop, then you can use Maep to view them on the N900. The directory structure is the same. I this structure too for my geocaching application, which also shared the maps with TangoGPS on the freerunner.

I was just setting up my old openmoko GTA02 so my kid could have a phone with a prepaid SIM and was reminded about tangoGPS. It was the only GPS I had on that gadget.

The big reason why I would like to have tangoGPS on my N900 is the share location with friends or use it so we can find each other downtown. It is great for finding friends meeting up like you were on that show 24. I don't think there is an app for the N900 which lets you track friends.

It seems TangoGPS URL is down. It appears the server that you log into to update position and get the nearby users for sharing is gone too.

There is Situare but that requires sharing with the NSA, I mean posting to a Facebook account. NO THANKS! http://talk.maemo.org/showthread.php?t=63100

So it appears that modRana actually had tangoGPS online service support and early in the thread hopes for adding more but I just installed and don't see support of any online services with the current version.
