I dont know if this has been mentioned before but Google maps (the website and not maemo mapper) works on the tablet now, by using hyper links for different zoom levels and a compas for choosing the direction in which to move I think they may have made it compatible - this makes it easier for searching by address

I'll stick with maemo mapper though as its a bit better as its quicker and easier to use - point to centre rather than navigate

did they not work before? I've always been able to use them.

I have two 770's (second one thanks to woot). One has os 2.2006.39-14 and on that, if I go to maps.google.com, it tells me I need at least opera 8.02+. The other 770 has os2007 hacker edition on it and google maps works fine. Just fyi. I'm assuming that the newest os2006 would work, too, since that's where they got the browser for the HE of os2007.
