--- Minutes 2013-02-08 ---

Meeting held on FreeNode, channel #maemo-meeting (http://mg.pov.lt/maemo-meeting-irclog/%23maemo-meeting.2013-02-08.log.html)

Attending:
[Council]
Joerg Reisenweber / DocScrutinizer05,

Alexander Kozhevnikov / Mentalist Traceur
[Others]
thedead1440
Kerio
Absent:
[Council]
Iván Gálvez Junquera / ivgalvez,
Niel Nielson / NielDK

Summary of topics (ordered by discussion):

- New Volunteers
- Migration Summary
- Denser meetings for next 3 weeks

Notes:
- Discussion of referendum (if it's even needed, and if so, when to do it) for formally bringing Council in congruence with HiFo bylaws/rules was postponed.

Topic 1 (New Volunteers):
- merlin1991 volunteered as maintainer of maemo repos.
- Ivgalvez, DocScrutinizer, and Qwazix voted in favor pre-meeting.
- MentalistTraceur voted in favor during meeting.
- merlin1991 got accepted as maintainer of maemo repos by Council (we were intending to count Ivgalvez as standing for the entire Board when approving merlin1991, but MentalistTraceur contacted Board to verify, and they insisted that we need to wait until their meeting before any volunteers are formally approved).
- woody volunteered in general with whatever he could help with, specifically accepting maintaining Garage and offering to help Chem|st as a secondary/lower sysop for t.m.o.
- DocScrutinizer, Qwazix, and MentalistTraceur voted in favor.
- woody got accepted pending Board approval.

Topic 2 (Migration Summary):
- All services running on Nemein's xen-grid
- Repo finally works properly (although still with legacy hash-sum issues)
- merlin will look into the hashsum issue this weekend.
- Autobuilder is still down but according to Eero Niels is working on
it as of today.
- Falk/warfare (our volunteer administrator/sysop for the whole
infrastructure/server) managed to get us a free
hosting/server-colocation offer from IDHH Internet Port Hamburg,
currently for a year, in Hamburg, in exchange for us giving them due credit by indicating on maemo.org that we are hosted by them.
It is within traveling distance for Falk, and is apparently at a
company where several of his friends and Maemo users work.
- Taking this approach would mean paying for shipping the server from Nemein (Finland) to Hamburg (rough estimate: €50-€300), approximately
~€300 for setup and a hardware upgrade (because Falk recommends increasing storage to 4TB) and means we would no be selling off the current server.
-This allows Falk to do hardware maintenance on-site himself.
- Another alternative at this time is OSU (Oregon State University)
OSL (Open-Source Lab), OSUOSL for short.
- OSUOSL is located in the United States, however. The current offer from them is $75 per month per server, with a $250 one-time setup cost, IF we use our own server over the Atlantic. We do not yet know what the costs would be if we rented root servers instead, because the discussion initiated with OSUOSL started with the premise that we will be colocating our server, rather than renting one. OSUOSL will also be forgiving if we are unable to make some monthly payments.
- The other alternative is renting from Hetzner, which will cost €300
per month plus set-up fees.
- MentalistTraceur noted a strong preference towards EU-based hosting due to the better safeguards against government being able to freely monitor international communications without any accountability, but that the preference isn't so strong so as to discount OSUOSL.
- Updates that we got through ivgalvez, from the meeting Board had with Nemein and Nokia reps, other than what was already mentioned above:
-- DNS transference should be initiated soon.
-- Nokia said they were not aware of the Nokia repo GPG key issue
-- Once the IP transference agreement is finished, SDKs will be
available to redistribute by the Hildon Foundation.
-- Commercial-related stuff like Ovi store and other Nokia downloads are not planned for shutting down any time soon, and will be online for a long time, but cannot be transfered to Hildon Foundation.
-- Nokia has begun looking at the files/binaries/etc we've asked for
permission to redistribute.
- Nemein received Hildon Foundation's server; sent serial number to Hildon Foundation.
- DocScrutinizer/Joerg and Warfare/Falk should be able to SSH into the autobuilder soon/now, to possibly help fix things.
- DocScrutinizer reminded people of another request, for anyone to put together a comprehensive list of who is doing what.

Topic 3 (Denser meetings for next 3 weeks):
- This was a mix of two topic; wanting to schedule a Board/Council
meeting, and/or a second, less formal Council meeting during the week.
- Ultimately, the Board/Council meeting was relegated to e-mail
discussion with Board because we need to find times that work for
them.
- Until then, we are postponing deciding on a secondary meeting for council, partly to see if a Board/Council meeting and informally
occasionally getting on will work out if we make an effort to be on
IRC more frequently, and partly because meeting had already lasted a while and people (mainly MentalistTraceur) had to leave.

Action Items
- MentalistTraceur will contact Falk about maemo.org login, because he was unable to log in to post meeting minutes properly, as 'council', last week, and DocScrutinizer asked Falk to look into it.

--- Minutes End ---

Quick side-note: Council has, during this week, made a formal recommendation to Board that they take the IPHH option, and Board will be discussing it in their upcoming meeting this weekend.

Nice to see things are moving forward, especially on the hashsum issue!
