Nokia is actually still doing something really nice. The new browser version for Nokia maps is really good. You have to try the 3D views. I think these are now done with those Navteq Laser-thingy equipped cars that make 3D models.

At least on Firefox 3D requires plugin, but it is really worth trying. They have really mapped whole metropolises in 3D. In the Helsinki view I can even see my little suburb in Espoo. It's really the scale and quality of the 3D that makes this better than what I've seen before. Can't wait until they expand it to everywhere.

Few screenshots of 3D views.

Wow, those look better than any flight sim I've seen...

*starts planning furiously for a flight sim for the N900 based on Ovi Maps*

They actually just use images alot of them

To make this possible Nokia has partnered with C3, the leading provider of 3D mapping solutions, offering photo-realistic models of the world.

C3 uses modern camera equipment to capture as many as one image per second of the same object from up to 100 different angles. The images are then used to automatically reproduce the shape of the objects with very high accuracy.

I think you can only get this on a desktop browser, I therefore have no idea why the OP started a new thread about something released months ago on TMO as we are never going to get this on our N900's.

Because I heard of it today, I have not seen it discussed here before, it might be come to N9 and its really cool.

Feel free to ask for modding if it bothers you.
