Provided an appropriate font is installed, it has always been able to render Japanese.
With OS 2008 Diablo the fonts come preinstalled so it can display Japanese out of the box (in most applications).

n810 does not come with ability to display japanese.
It displays german and other european languages but not japanese or even chinese.
I am not very familiar with computers but is there something i can download or do, so that it CAN display japanese?
Thanks

I think it does. I haven't tried browsing Japanese or Chinese websites with the N810 yet, but it can display Japanese/Filenames and ID3 tags. So the fonts are there, and when the fonts are there, the MicroB browser is able to use them. All applications that render fonts with pango display the characters well.
Software that uses more exotic toolkits (such as SDL or EFL) may or may not be able to render the characters.
