it would be such a total change from a company to a group of developers and technical supporter paid by users... well, it's an option, drastic but viable.

As aegis says.

Also, any money you pour into Jolla at this stage will be soaked up by pre-existing debts in the same way the tablet money was soaked up in the first place. There is no guarantee that your injection will be used for your intended purpose.

That wasn't what was said.

What was discussed is a concrete proposal that's on the shareholder/board table. It has to get approved, or not.

Item (1) shows that it would also fund the further development of Sailfish OS 2.x for tablets and publish Sailfish 2.x images for some existing and popular tablet(s). So, it would benefit everybody who has some popular tablet (e.g. Nexus 9) and wants a Linux/GNU mobile OS (instead of Android).

Wow, yeah ! Mobile OS grows in trees ! Let's wait for the next season to have new fruits, ops, new version of Sailfish OS automatically released.

Looking at the bar graph from the "Open letter to Jolla community: through the tough times" (24/11/2015) :

it shows approx. US$/EUR 2.7 million of pre-payments, US$/EUR 2.1 million in material+hardware for the tablet, US$/EUR 2.1 million for software development.
So, to the end user, the tablet is finished only with the software developed and the hardware built, which needed US$/EUR 4.2 million (> 2.7 million).

cma user in TJC suggested to "Register interest in Intex Sailfish OS Phone", by registering in the end of the page.

"also" - my emphasis which means you're still spending community money on delivering tablets that have been already paid for by others, diverting funding away from development.

It's terrible that people have lost out on their purchases but that was the gamble. I don't see why MORE money should be spent on that bad bet.

No, they don't grow on trees. That was my point about funding continued OS development or the releasing of source and not the tablet bonfire. Let's not waste more money.

If all that comes out of this is Sailfish's closed source being released then there's the roots for growing a new mobile OS.

Jolla may have spent $50m getting there. The next people might not have to spend quite that much.

Standing on the shoulders of giants works in a lot of cases; but in this case, if the continued failure continues around a piece of technology, it's usually abandoned.

"Standing on the shoulders of giants" or "flogging a dead horse".

That is the question.
