Ok thanks, I haven't see this option before, finally I think that the Dual button in the applet is not needed

Ooo, great Another useful option shoveled up from the settings

A 3 button version ([DUAL][2G][3G]) with the current setting ''pressed'' would be a bit more accessable imo

Thanks qwerty12! It should be exactly the same effort switching I think so it should be great! Thanks again.

Why dual? There's no point. Wether you use 3G or 2G. It's not the phones decision. This app is great like this. Extremely easy and quick way to change.

It would take longer to pick from those three

The applet looks quite nice, thanks for taking the time to implement it.

I think the issue with dual mode and the ease of switching modes would be solved by switching between dual mode and 2G mode. What is the benefit of using 3G mode instead of dual mode? If you are in an area with 3G coverage then you will always use it if you have dual mode enabled.

There's one, a big one. It does not force you to change 2G when you happen to move on location where somehow 3G coverage is not good enough. So it uses the 3G still when there's not all the bars full, instead of dropping to 2G, which happens quite often in here, Finland for example.

working great so far!! I was definitely waiting on this one.
had a feeling the N900 was going to be a good investment, for the first time I'm experiencing first hand the true meaning of "community" and "open source".

0.3 is in -devel. Changelog:

3g2g-mode-selection-applet (0.3) unstable; urgency=low

* Switch to a true 48x48 icon.
* Switch to hd_status_plugin_item_get_dbus_g_connection() from dbus_g_bus_get().
* Use async. D-Bus functions.
* Use some G_LIKELYs.

Regarding this, could you use a radio button structure with 3 options:
[*]2G [ ]3G, [ ]DUAL

?

That would make it easily switchable. I have not started working with the SDK yet so I am not sure how hard this would be though. Just an idea.

Cheers!
I've attached a variant that does this. This version will not be appearing in -devel and it won't be updated by me. Consider it a one-off.

(diff applies to current 0.3 version in -devel. Just in case I do bring out 0.4...)
