It could be clearer on that screen that it has it's own menu I feel, you don't get the standard arrow icon highlighting it. That and more documentation would help too!

A new version of vlc-remote should be in the extras-devel repo now.

Mainly a bug fix and tweak release, but we have added a full settings dialog for managing the application behaviour - whether to show album art, orientation, polling frequency, displaying unknown filetypes etc.

The bug fixes were mainly about improving resource usage, handling disconnection from the network more elegantly and some UI improvements (double click support plus more).

have you thought about making it able to control other things as well as vlc, i have a squeezebox server running and this would be the most awsome remote for it, it connects to the server fine but obviously cant do anything with it. it would be awsome to switch from vlc mode to squeeze mode, i know not many people use squeezeplay though but just a suggestion.

I wouldn't rule anything out, we're still exploring some further areas of vlc integration but I am very open to supporting other media players if it fits the model.

Don't suppose you could point me to any online resources for Squeezebox? I don't use it myself but would be happy to make a quick assessment on the likelihood of supporting it. Either as part of vlc-remote or as a spin off application.

Also, is squeezebox just a music player or is it a full blown media player?

Thanks for your interest.

well its for streaming radio/ music around your home and made by logitech, you have a squeeze server running on your pc, and then you can connect as many squeezebox players as you want around your home to the server and have syncronized playback or use them individually,
you can buy squeezeplayers from logitech as well as remotes for controling them
http://www.logitech.com/en-gb/speake....ac=bc|50|5745
but they also open sourced thier squeezeplayer software so i personally have squeezeplays on 2 ubuntu machines, a modded openpeak frame/o2 joggler and a windows pc dotted around and they work perfectly. there is a thread around here somewhere for compiling squeezeplay for maemo 5 but i havent been able to compile it.
heres a link to thier squeezebox wiki
http://wiki.slimdevices.com/index.php/Main_Page
and the squeezebox community forum
http://forums.slimdevices.com/
and one more that might be of use but i dont know

there is already an app for web os
http://developer.palm.com/appredirec...rygoat.sqzctrl
squeeze commander for android
http://www.squeezecommander.com/
and i think theres a few for ios
hope that helps a bit, and you should give it a go it makes a great home audio solution
thanks. mikey

Thanks dscobsct,

I see from the threads on tmo that you've got nowehere with the Maemo Squeezeplay port https://garage.maemo.org/projects/squeezeplay/. Shame, as that would typically be your best bet - you know this already though don't you

Are you able to use a web interface to your SqueezeBox server through the N900 browser directly? I ask for two reasons - 1) you currently have a means of controlling the player, 2) you may be able to supply me with some html / javascript sourcecode to see what and how communication is supported via the web interface.

cheers

If you could supply me with the view-source (html file) of the web interface (from a desktop may be easier) and any javascript files it references that would mean I could take a quick look at feasibility this evening without needing to do any installation of server software first.
