Get the new 12. software update and your GPS worries are greatly improved.

Well, no, it appears to be a real product-- but there's a good chance it's just being misidentified.

well, hopefully some Nokia folks read this forum.

my input on the next gen version is:

1. faster, more memory.

2. hardware Divx chipset

3. it needs a better screen. i can barely see the n800 in my car during the day (screen washes out). my Zen Vision W is clear as can be during the day.

4. im cool with the keyboard, good idea, keep running with it.

5. needs to be a fully functional, easy to use media player as well.

6. btw they have these things called iPods and iPhones that have amazing interfaces, and show what can be done with a touchscreen. use those as cheat sheets k?

For me the ideal keyboard would be :

a) separate (need it, take it out, don't need it, leave it)
b) BT (of course)
c) same size as the tablet itself (more and bigger keys, like a Psion S5's)
d) a clamshell, the cover acting as a holder for the tablet when open.

I also hope the next tablet will revert to the 770 form factor, with cover.

Edit : here's a real bad mockup of my Frankenstein keyboard :-)

The graff toolkit, once a bit more mature, could help with that part

After some thought, could it be possible if you look carefully on the left the clear part is that a flash for the camera ? or could that possibly be a second slide which would give you a double slide phone much like the ever growing more popular uber geek phone the Helios Ocean ?

Interesting, but appears dead due to blog inactivity...

I noticed many posters at that blog are asking why a few similar projects can't be consolidated. I'm wondering the same thing.

whatever the next iteration is, it better have a transflective screen and some type of screen cover.

I think it's extremely elegant. In the closed state it is more impervious to dust.

In the open state you can thumb-in messages while holding it, doesn't need a table.

Slide-out is, frankly, in nowadays. Lots of purchases are motivated by the 'ooo, chic!' factor. Obviuosly clamshell has real advantages (protecting screen!).

For gaming, the dpad placement *might* be usable, but far inferior to a dedicated gaming portable placement. It will require holding the device with index and middle fingers on both sides, with thumbs folded down to hit dpad on the left and JKL keys on the right. :/

We all have our dream-design. I did a Gimp mockup of what mine might look like.

(EDIT: better version)

* Larger Dpad with easy action and smaller center button *
* Stereo speakers*
* Right hand side buttons that accomodate thumb motion without taking up too much space *
* Only a few mm wider *
