oh my yes ...the wrath of Stallman is indeed coming to pass..
as far as the dex goes...(sigh)...a linux phone doing this would have me throwing money at it...
hell...just a linux phone that is current... would have me throwing money...
hmm...
I think the pocket C.H.I.P. can do this...
hmmmmm....
actually I think the nexus 5 with maru can do this ...
actually actually ...the nexus 5 supposedly runs a few linux distros...(mind from what I have read ...it has had its issues with installation and running...perhaps in time...it will be more stable...bet any device running antix for arm wouldn't have probs.....too bad antix for arm hasn't been done...)

hahaha....yeah justmemory...gotta admit I keep forgetting our n900s can do better...
Still...we need current images that run smoothly.
gads!
Someone has got to do an antix image for our n900's !
I'd use it.
I use my antix distro daily as is...
I KNOW it would run on the n900...
antix will run on a toaster! made in the 1950's! I would swear.
Hell....I have it running on a laptop from 2002-2003 ...and it runs like a dream.
(not that I use that particular laptop for much serious stuff...it is the spare for guests ..so be prepared for olde schoole hardwaree if you come to visit...you don't get my fly laptops...)

You know, Antix looks real slick! I will have to give it a try. One thing I like about the Samsung device is it will run Word and Excel and presumably Power Point. For me those three software items are Bill Gates revenge on Linux uses. I've never, to my satisfaction, been able to port documents (beyond simple text) between Microsoft office and Libre Office. Having Office capability is something I can use for my job. On the other hand, I can chroot a linux distribution on my android phone and it is tolerable for many things. Indeed quite useful. Where it is weak is browsing and media (some lagginess and sound quality). But there are good enough android apps to meet most needs there. Not the most ideal situation but doable.

according to distr@watch
"antiX is a fast, lightweight and easy-to-install Linux live CD distribution based on Debian's "Stable" branch for x86 compatible systems. antiX offers users the "antiX Magic" in an environment suitable for old computers. The goal of antiX is to provide a light, but fully functional and flexible free operating system for both newcomers and experienced users of Linux. It should run on most computers, ranging from 256 MB old PIII systems with pre-configured swap to the latest powerful boxes. 256 MB RAM is recommended minimum for antiX".
according to the facts antix can run on nokia n900. i have to try antix on my old pc. thanks bro.

honestly speaking hardy, mscion...
antix is a superb distro.
The write up at distrowatch is nice and pat...
But it is not thorough.

Yup it runs "stable"
but you also have the option during install to go "testing" or "experimental" instead.

I have run it super minimal ...and I have loaded it right up with all the bells and whistles...and it can most definitely handle it.

Nice thing too about antix not mentioned is that it is a "rr" ....a rolling release...
Install once...
just keep it updated.

It can run the oddest stuff too.
I was surprised at the list of wm that work with it...
let alone de's
speaking of...
it even comes ready to use not just the reg expected wm's but also flux ...ready to play with...
It has no prob with detecting hardware or peripherals (well not for me anyway...)
it has no prob running that real time amp prog I was farting about with for the nxx0...that consumed a few months of my life...
I also got the maemo distro running on antix ...gotta dig it out...it's around here somewhere...
oooh and it is system d - less too...which I find a godsend...
since distros running "d" ..I seem to have issues with ..hmmph..

and I have never had antix bonk out on me...or a new slew of updates leave stuff I want or need...behind....
yup...antix is an excellent distro.

I am sure it would run scary good and fast on our n900's ...

edit:
I know I am forgetting tons of stuff as well...
oooh!...like the fact that it also has not only the full install ...but minimal install...and a barebones install as well...
super lean...super small size..

the only thing I find more fascinating (distro wise ...lately) would be that very odd distro ...that if it lives long enough to mature...is a real socks-blown-off-the-feet distro ....what was it's name again?

BEDROCK !
that was it!!

freaky deaky distro man....
the future is here...kinda distro...

once I have enough time I want to play around with bedrock.
I think it could be my last distro.

edit: actually one of the fascinating things about bedrock...I have been speculating... is that it may be possible to run maemo on it...all those issues that are distro related... that have been walls that we have hit in progress to un-bridle maemo...may find a greater amount of success forward ..using bedrock.

As far as office solutions go...I've been doing a lot of work with gnumeric...
which works with sooooo many other office programs ...win, linux, etc.
and it works smooth on windows ...and on the n900 ...I am quite enjoying it actually...
Funny ....never gave it a second look for a decade + ...now I am quite astonished at what it can do.

Bedrock Linux sounds a bit brain-bending:

Bedrock Linux

Bedrock Linux is a Linux distribution created with the aim of making most of the (often seemingly mutually-exclusive) benefits of various other Linux distributions available simultaneously and transparently.

If one would like a rock-solid stable base (for example, from Debian or a RHEL clone) yet still have easy access to cutting-edge packages (from, say, Arch Linux), automate compiling packages with Gentoo's portage, and ensure that software aimed only for the ever popular
