I have a similar problem and before I try flashing it I want to know which commands do I use to keep my data on the device? The last time I used it was the day my second son was born and that was over a month ago so I don't want to lose the pics and video.

So I flashed my N900 to PR 1.3 and now instead of getting just the black screen, now I get the the 5 dots of loading and it doesn't stop. Does this mean I will have to flash the eMMC also? I can see the removable E and F drives when I connect to a PC, but clicking on them tells me to insert disk. I want to get my data off of it before flashing the eMMC. Is there any way to get it done?

I also have problems with my n900 Anand. I tried to reflash because it wouldn't boot (white nokia logo screen & no LED). Now it won't even pick up the usb connection (grey nokia logo screen, constant yellow LED, switching off, then on and short vibrate). Any ideas??

Ok now I'm trying to cold flash my N900 and I am looking for the hw_id and can't find any 4 digit number other than the one http://tablets-dev.nokia.com/nokia_N900.php shows. I have the same 0434 above the exclamation point inside the circle. I don't have the picture of the trash can or the black rectangle. That area is white. I got it from Newegg in Februrary and I'm in the USA if it helps.

I unpacked the RX-51_2009SE_20.2010.36-2.002_PR_COMBINED_002_ARM.bin and none of the files in there have 0434 in them. Most start with RX-51:2101 but I don't see that anywhere on my label.

I Want to try to cold flash and salvage my data before I give up and flash the eMMC.
