I sure hope so, but, meego will take a long time till it reaches Android state, mature, with few bugs, and lots of apps to choose from.
I'm not saying that in 1 year Android will be better, but if I get an android now, I will feel very comfortable ditching it in 1 year for a meego device.

It probably will since Gingerbread will have a slew of changes that support tablets.

I've been searching the web today for hours for information about the Captivate, as it is not sold here (Israel) I am trying to figure out exactly which model I need (europe / usa) etc etc - and the more I inspect this phone the more I like it.
Only things I really feel i'll be missing from my N900 are the dual led which I use very often as torch / light for night video with lfocus, and also skype video, I don't really need too much multi tasking, 3 or 4 light apps open at one time is enough for me. I just want the option to minimize the browser / player while GPSing or Texting.

N900 multitasking is an overkill for my needs at least.
You may want to search a bit more as the Captivate/Galaxy S are having substantial GPS issues:

Thanks for the info,
I read there is a fix for the GPS which works very well, until the official fix arrives. http://forum.xda-developers.com/show...=728611&page=2

My next phone would be a N900.1 with the following changes

Hardware
- More Power 1,5 GHz Dual
- slighly bigger resolution and screen 1024 x 480 would be nice
- slimmer like the droid/milestone
- eithernet port for connecting to routers to configur them
- USB port for printing and everything connecting

Software
- All bugs from Maemo 5 fixed
- All brainstorms done
- Flash 10.1 all the way
- Better Mediaplayer
- Usability features from competitors - like better cut and past stuff.

This would actually make my day.

Markus

Hehe, ethernet port in the cellphone?
You could do with the USB port and a little adapter.
And anyway, you can go buy an etherscope (:

Not sure. I will commend Nokia that ages after the N97 and N900 came out we are still yet to see another company produce a phone that has 32gb on board storage plus micro sd slot. Plus a hardware keyboard. Doesn't seem like anyone is going to match that soon. So Nokia has an advantage in getting me to get their meego device if they can match what they already have with the N97 and N900. And the leaked Nokia meego interface looked pretty awesome. Also I love how I can use WinSCP and customize so much of my N900 by replacing all sorts of background and icon files. I presume their meego device will offer the same level of customization (especially if they are using those boring black and white icons we saw in the leaked video).

However, is all that enough? Nokia has done so much damage already and even a fanboy like me who has only ever had Nokia phones is reluctant to ever get another Nokia device. Why? Well:

- Nokia cannot even make a properly functioning media player widget for the N900, can we really trust them to make a well featured phone that works properly;
- the N97 was the worst phone I have ever seen (apart from maybe my wife's Samsung Tocco) and I had to return it after 3 days;
- the N900 has so many bugs it is unbelievable and I doubt the replacement will be very buggy as well;
- Nokia customer services is absolute rubbish and they have refused to fix the faulty usb port of my N900 so not sure I will want to buy anything from a company that treats customers this way.

I think meego will be amazing though. So I am hoping someone beside Nokia releases a Meego mobile. Then that will be my next phone. So many companies are jumping on the Windows 7 bandwagon and yet no one has announced that they will be releasing a meego mobile so I am not all that hopeful unless something comes from Intel. But as far as I am aware they do not make phones or computers do they? Just chips and stuff.

Mine too although my N900 will stay with me for at least a year I reckon. Only if a MeeGo device comes out with all of the N900s functions and openess with above + OVI Store improvement.

After having such an open device I dont think I can look back now, I have done so many things on this phone you just cant do on any other.

I think the design is also great, okay its not a skinny size 0 phone like some others but I dont live in fear that if it got hit by a fly's penis its going to break!

Right now its the geekiest phone on the market, nothings comes close to it and thats just why I love it.

----------

I have noticed on MTalk people complaining about the device and after much reading I have deduced that these people either have a) a faulty handset or b) learning difficulties.

To those who agree with this - Kudos
To those who do not - <Insert suitable insult to your failings here>

You forgot to include 'Made by, maintained and supported by anyone but Nokia'.
