Just as linux distributions like Fedora and Ubuntu run on pcs Ubuntu Touch and Sailfish need top hardware to run on. Hopefully this will open the door for further development of these and other OS. I would certainly purchase a device that supports such.

ubuntu are using lib hybris for their devices, so it generally means that sailfish should have a nice time on the device, unsure about the kernel though...

Wonderful to see the progress. Would have been wonderful to see a device with Ubuntu preinstalled which widens the market and is a way to easily see interest. Wonder if we'll ever see an ubuntu phone in T-mobile shops and such like was in articles earlier in the year.

Note that, the MX4 version mentioned use MT6595 SoC from MediaTek.
This SoC uses Imagination Technologies PowerVR™ GPU.
You know what happens next.

What happens next?

I don't know what the track record with IT/PowerVR is? Unless you're thinking this will ease the port to the N900, in which case you'd be mistaken.

Hmmh, how is it a nightmare exactly?
I mean, in this case it should be okay since it uses libhybris and so runs on top of the existing android drivers. Should cause no problems as I understand it?

Or please call ghost busters before you do.

Meizu MX4 to ship in Ubuntu version

The Ubuntu release will likely first arrive in a Meizu device, now revealed to be a custom version of the Meizu MX4, which is shipping this month with Android. It’s possible however, that BQ — the other phone vendor partner announced by Canonical last February — could also arrive with an Ubuntu phone by the end of the year, as promised. The Meizu MX4 with Ubuntu will indeed ship in December, as tipped by China-based Meizu through Meizu’s Italian blog (translated).
