Hey guys I just want to know if it possible to dual boot Android 2.1 on the N900 one day? Well 1.6 is already possible but will the 2.1 be possible as well?

I don't see why not but I'm not the guy who dual boot the Android with Maemo 5 lol. So I just asking if someone out there could port Android 2.1 to N900 for some special benefit to some proprietary applications

Well, there's Eclair which is 2.0.

It's of course possible to boot 2.1.. you just need someone to compile the 2.1 Android for the N900 and make you an image of it.

think that we should first have 1.6 ported, and then when it's fully working, try the 2.0 or 2.1

Or you could just buy an android device, if you really want android...

This falls pretty much in the same category as running win 3.11 on the N900...

An interesting idea, gives people more choices and the platform is maturing nicely.

However, this is a google phone which means "all your privacy are belongs to us".

If an android port can function without google "spyware" then fine otherwise no thanks.

is the Android 1.6 FULLY functional? I mean, if you have it on the N900 can you also install the droid apps?

Some of you seem to be confused...

Android will run any Android App if you can get the apk for it. It's an operating system like any other.. there is software written for it and it runs.

However, Google's apps are closed source and cannot be distributed. This includes the Android Market, Maps, Youtube, Voice, Maybe even Gmail and Mail etc. These will not be possible to use because the N900 is not an official build with a license with google to have those apps.

Meaning that you are limited to the apps you can get either via direct web download, or third party markets such as SlideMe.

Technically, Android itself is "fully functional".. but it's not going to be the same device as you would buy that was meant to run Android.

As long as it can run the new HAVA/Monsoon Vulkano box, I'm good.
