the control panel MEMORY applet stopped working. other operations seemed slower even after power-miniboot...
downloaded the upgrade file and upgrade install wizard to XP Pro dimension 8100/640Mb
ran "upgrade" accepting defaults
ran "install wizard" accepting defaults
ran "backup" on device
connected to USB 1.0 port, hold "HOME" and hit "POWER"
usb icon is displayed
ran "install" from checkbox (rather than the README...)
browse to select Program Files/Nokia 770 update wizard/Nokia 770 software update
do the NEXT thing. Goes 10% and waits. Does the "DUH?"
turn off the device by unpluggin' the USB cable
it reboots
hit the off key again (there wasn't any pause.. it just shut down.)
close and do start/etc... and select the image
follow the "hold HOME and turn on" then NEXT
flashed in about 2 minutes
rebooted after detaching the cable
ran "restore"
EDIT if you don't say YES TO ALL when you restore favorites, etc will not be restored EDIT
EDIT you will have to re-pair your BLUETOOTH devices EDIT
OBSERVATIONS:
set time and etc as in the first power up run, but the time-zone and other settings are retained. I had changed the "nokia" home page on HOME and it's image setting and they were retained.
connections are there. MEMORY works.
of course none of the packages I had installed were there.
I had "saved" them and then "opened" them. I have a copy of each in "My Documents" (by default) so re-installing them is easy. They were "restored" from the rs-mmc...
master volume and keyboard/recogintion/language were also restored (I guess.)
much rapid. I had the -7 at delivery and have seen messages about the -8, but the europe download site I got evidently still has the -7 release.
it still seem much faster loading than the version that came on the device yesterday...
