Ok, this may be more of a general Linux question, but where is the proper place to put startup scripts?

I have the sobexsvr stuff installed, but I need to restart it each time I reboot or power cycle.

Usually, on debian I create a new script in /etc/init.d/ and link to it from /etc/rc.S

Is this OK or is there a special "maemo way" to do this ?

Don't you also need a symbolic link in /etc/rc2.d?

I mean, put the actual script in /var/lib/etc/init.d and link it to rc2/3.d....

How about user stuff?

for example, I want to

alias mc="/var/lib/install/usr/bin/mc -b"

.bashrc?
