In other news: Imagination Technologies released an open-source PowerVR driver the other day. It doesn't support the specific chipset the N900 uses, but hopefully it can be modified to do so at some point in the future, removing the need for a graphics blob in Leste.

Greetings!
It has been a while (at least 2 years) since I used my n900. Recently I bought a new (used, obviously) device, and I thought I'd like to try Leste on it.

I found out that I had already forgot much more about how to set the n900 up, and was too lazy to read all the stuff again, so I just used the trial and error way. Finally I got device flashed, CSSU testing installed, U-boot and power kernel installed, leste entry for u-boot done and latest leste image (maemo-leste-1.0-armhf-n900-20220206.img.xz) written to sd.

But when I pick Leste from U-boot, the screen just blacks out just after printing the "booting kernel..." or "starting kernel..." or whatever it says. Do you have any easy explanation what I am doing wrong?

In principle it is normal that it blacks out. The backlight will be off, but under the right conditions you could see that some linux boot messages are shown. Leave it for a while it takes long to boot. When you still see nothing you could try to push the power button short and see if it wakes up and the lock screen is shown.

I would suggest maybe try to boot the image by loading the kernel through the flasher or read the device N900 category from maemo leste wiki and compare it with your steps you have done.

Is there anywhere a list of all the most problematic closed source stuff which gives problems for getting Maemo Leste to work well? Or can someone make a short list?
