Now with that said, I actually do have an old laptop with win98 where for kicks I was able to plug in a Bluetooth usb adapter for it and was I'm able to connect to it with my 770 via bluetooth to transfer files (the adapter had windows 98 drivers)...works in a pinch although BT is much slower then direct USB.

If the computer is that old, switch it over to Ubuntu. It'll run way faster.

Try this (haven't tried)

If it doesn't work out of box you may try tweak driver VID and PID values in driver ini file to match those of nokia 770 so the drive recognizes the device. For finding those values google for usbview.exe and run it when device is attached.

Can't wait for some Tmave Pivo next week in Praha
The Nokia website has some WINXP/2000 drivers for the DKE-2 cable that was supplied but nothing that I can see for WIN98. Could anybody point me in the direction of a suitable driver I could use ?
