That guy in the video should get familiar with xinput's transformation option to fix his touchscreen orientation:

Great! I need the same device but without the gaming controllers and thus bigger keyboard.

Funny! I said the same thing about the Pyra.
I guess we'll both have to live with the needless gaming controls.

btw I don't really get why the GPD Win's keyboard was designed the way it is.
I'd think that on a device this small you'd want to use the full width of the device to make the keys as big as possible. But shifting the main key field to the left and adding the extra two columns on the right kind of defeats this idea.

the keyboard is the one piece that looks, for want of a better phrase, cheap. i know there were several revisions and some backers submitted suggestions but i agree the extra column could have been rejigged. iirc theres some l3and r3 buttons and power which i'd move to far left, right and centre to start. plus i'd use a different font on the keys.

i suppose the shifted keyboard you'd learn to live with, i have with the n900's funky left alignment of all rows.

Why do these threads always bring up the ancient as **** hardware? That's indicative of the sad state of hardware presently or that the glory days are long past for the things any of you would like.

Either way, that's just sad

Probably several things at work here;
  • The use patterns of target audience are different as what we generally consider "needs"
  • In the past devices were better made, and of course relatively more expensive too

If you want a sim slot you'll just have to wait for the Pyra.
I believe its development has come far enough to be safe it won't just vaporize. Current conservative release estimations say it should be available in January or February. The prototyping is pretty much done, mass production/purchasing for some parts has already startet, now it's pretty much just waiting for the remaining parts and the final assembly.
