ah...that's a good one...

well...how bad can it really be?
it is just a matter of a most natural resources and how cheap we used to extract them...
and now it is becoming ...rapidly more expensive to extract them than they are worth...literally...
the gain is being dwarfed by the cost...

Now to put it into something tangible...graspable...
everything we make...everything we produce..everything we ship...everything we grow as crops ...everything we wear...
everything ...
is dependant on petroleum and / or its byproducts...
from the creation of essential parts to build machines...
for those machines to function...
for those machines to service or produce for us...
we aren't dependant...
we aren't oil junkies as a species...
we have just allowed the use to become necessity... in and for everything.
and now the pyramid scheme of putting all our eggs in the petroleum products basket is catching up with us...
but it doesn't look especially good.

not that I am "doom and glooming" the entire situation...
it has been leading to this for a long time...
and soooo many have been warning us all...
instead of electing representatives into power who would do the necessary thing...
we all have deliberately elected people to power with the mandate to do what we desire.
so... a big raspberry to those who think I am "doom and glooming"
this is the new Earth and the new politics and the new economy and ecology....and everyone voted this in.
or through a lack of will allowed it , or didn't voice loud enough that we must elect to position people who will divert us from this result....
Not a one of us hasn't benefited or profited from the wholesale plunder of this place...somehow...
So to those who say I am "doom and glooming" or say they didn't vote this planet the way it ended up...

suck it up ...buttercup
the best is yet to come.

We are definitely guilt to use too much energy. But to me, I feel that more people trying to contributing today than yesterday. But it’s really tricky to give up what you have and also to know the way forward. All countries want someone else to pay the bill...

That’s why an external threat like an Alien invasion could make us, countries to give up more faster and leveling the consumption all over the globe.

Dr who? Dr dooming and glooming means what?

Seems to me, given that the destruction of the world is inevitable, the best thing to do is to party on till the world ends. At least we would have more fun instead of all this sacrifice stuff... I guess, we could build a spaceship to move to another planet to trash, and so forth, but I'm not sure that can be done in a timely fashion...

yup...
exo exploration and colonisation is costly, dangerous, with a very low chance of success..
and takes more time than I think we have to accomplish...

endo exploration however ...is more cost / resource effective, with a lower chance of risk, and a higher chance of success given the time we have and the speed at which we deplete resources ...

even as we come up with more efficient ways of consumption and conservation, even as we come up with better and better alternatives..
it is still an uphill battle we are facing in regard to our hungry demand...

for example...
lets say we have at most and best we have 100 to 200 years maximum...
before all our consumable resources are depleted at current and anticipated demands...

-factor in advancements to conserve and more efficiently utilise these resources...buying us a little more time...

-factor in breakthroughs and new technologies that are discovered, and then implemented to offset or replace SOME of our consumables...

-factor in the great need to utilise the ever dwindling consumables TO work at attempting to escape them...most likely only in part..
this will hamper advancement..
(For example ...these "new" breakthroughs anticipated...even existing alternatives such as solar or wind power, geo-thermal wave action on the ocean...How exactly have they been manufactured? right down to each part...right up to distribution...the chain of "need " for their creation, distribution, parts, repair and maintenance IS dependant on petroleum...as the supply becomes scarcer ...the ability to "effect" the process of technological advancement to jump clear of the downward spiral that EVERYTHING gets caught in...becomes that much harder...)

-and factor in ....finally ...the continued upward curve of hunger and demand...

So we may then say...instead of having ..at most a 100 to 200 year maximum before total collapse...
instead we may be lucky and push that ...not to double ...(due to an always increasing curve upward of demand) ...but say rather half again...
Before total viable consumables are ...well...consumed... done and and gone...and we are truly fcuked...
we have a possible minimum of 150 to a maximum of a possible 300 years before total collapse ...
This is of course depending mainly on consumptive rates...
Our consumptive rate has sped up since knowing there is less...
When it becomes wholesale knowledge to the public anticipate consumptive rates of natural resources planet wide to go through the roof...as nations and peoples fight over resources...plunder and clear-cut their way through the rest of the planet at an even more accelerated rate.

So I am being generous and liberal in my estimate...

a severe estimate before the damage becomes endemic collapse would be under 50 years...

my personal guessing "hope" would be a 100 years ...before things get really bad.
(mainly because I "hope" to be dead before the worst hits )

the french minister for the environment just resigned on live radio...
he said plenty.
https://www.reuters.com/article/us-f...-idUSKCN1LD0K0

the reuters article does not have a transcript of the dialogue ...
I do suggest that those interested either listen to the said radio show or get the transcript...since the now freshly quit environment minister said a great deal worth listening or reading...
[Excerpts]
"I no longer believe," Hulot said. "The planet is becoming an oven, our natural resources are being exhausted, biodiversity is melting like snow in the sun and it's not always dealt with like a priority issue."
"France is doing more than a lot of other countries. Do not make me say that it is doing enough. It is not doing enough. Europe is not doing enough. The world is not doing enough,"
He described himself as "all alone" and said, "I have a bit of influence, but I have no power and no means."
"Where are my troops? Who do I have behind me?"

and there was more he had to say..
very good interview...

"Doctor Who"
I am beginning to believe you do live on the far side of the moon Dave..
Doctor Who is the longest running scifi tv show....
its been going since the early 1960's...
with a hiatus or two along the way...
excellent series...
why there must be years worth of watching in episodes....
I should know...
I have every episode....
and it does take some time to get through them all...
once started from the beginning...
by the time you reach the present...they have already come out with a new season or two ...
and when done those new episodes...
why...I have forgotten the first ones...

a good way to pass the quiet time at work...

I KNOW !!!
right?!?!?!

Tom was the best...
he was a great madcap Doctor Who...The quintessential Doctor Who...
although I did like the very first Doctor as well...
and the 2nd Doctor...
But other than those 2 and Tom ...
it wasn't until the Doctor Who resurrection with Christopher Eccleston ..
and the subsequent Doctors ...
that I appreciated their approach to the character...
Good writers..and good actors as the Doctor help...

I remember as a kid watching my first doctor who shows...
on our public tv (TVO TVOntario ....the original knowledge network ...Doctor Who ...and Elwy Yost's "Magic Shadows" ..a movie segment of the tv channel ..Elwy was the Professor of film and Media at university down in toronto..his introductions were always interesting...he managed to get interviews...sit down interviews with hard to talk to actors...and his wrap up at the end of a film was great...but it was the haunting music and animation intro to "Magic Shadows" that gripped me more than anything..
Magic Shadows being the saying of how the play of shadows danced when seen for the first time ..on film...back when film was just being seen for the first time..
here is the intro to that classic old show "Magic Shadows"...just gotta hear and see it again...)

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=AG9AZm1gPDY

and the outro at the show's end...

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=G7cFUyKckf0

I must admit that the 60's 70's and 80's had some really diverse hidden gems of film and television ...
a lot of creativity on a shoestring budget was done...
anddddd...then it all went to crap.
now we have great effects ...and better acting out of digital effects...than we do out of actors...
and the whole of it pandering to what sells ...so there isn't a loss...
safe bets...and terrible remakes....or take-offs...

anyway....
I always wanted a muffler scarf like Tom Bakers'
I finally got one...
Not identical...
just as long...
but better....
the ends of the scarf...were folded back over themselves and sewn up the sides...
So I got nice deep pockets on each end of my scarf!
which beats the hell out of gloves or mittens on a cold walk...
and I never lose or forget my pockets!
Unless I forget to wrap that scarf around me..

Have a few stories to tell from when I was a kid and wrote the "Doctor" ..

Anyway ...
Back to my Doctor Who Marathon...
I am finally up to Tom Baker's Doctor Who...
and about 5-6 stories in...
"Planet of Evil" I am just starting ...
(cripes! It has taken a LONG time to get this far...)
