I recently tried to install Samba. It did not install well, but now I can not remove it nor can I upgrade over it. Is there a way to remove the source file (Samba) and try to reinstall all over.

TIA.

Did you try to remove it using apt-get?
go to xterm and gain root access...
apt-get remove samba

Okay. Is xterm installed on there already or do I have to install that first?

As you can see, I am new to this environment.

I only tried to uninstall it via the App Manager

Thanks

I'm new to this also...

I found this - http://maemo-hackers.org/wiki/OssoXterm - Hopefully that helps.

Hey mate,

Thanks. I found it about 30 seconds before a mail arrived letting me know someone had answered.

I got it installed, now I need to know how to tell the thing to allow me root access.

Hey dude. Thanks for the help, but I had written about being lucky enough to have an N800 that never gave me a problem, I got the "reboot cycle of death". It just hung and rebooted and rebooted, until I went ahead and flashed it. Now that it is pristine I might decide to play with it and see what this puppy can do.

Any ideas where I should start. You seem to be up on the know. Point the way.
