Is it possible to carry a 3g wireless router adapter with you to enable wireless connection practically anywhere possible? Are there any other alternatives for wireless connectivity for the n810 on the go?

Wi-fi plus 3g-enabled symbian nokia phones can run an app called joikuspot which effectively turns the phone in a wi-fi router, serving its 3g connectivity to nearby wi-fi devices. It's a good solution for what you asked for imho.
But if you only want to connect your NIT, just tether to your phone.

There are also USB 3G sticks. You could use one with an adaptor to your NIT, but keep in mind how much mA they draw.

Linux + 3G

These are standard USB. You will need to buy adapters indeed. E.g.

It should be mentioned though that unless there's a local problem with your carrier (i.e. tethering, crippled phones or whatever), the by far simplest way to use 3G to be online everywhere is by using bluetooth tethering to a 3G- or 3.5-capable mobile phone.
