I just wanted to point out that I love that the orientation applet for stable CSSU is mace optional and seperately downlowdable - this optionality will be included in the testing versions as well, yes, when next testing CSSU rolls out (currently it wants to uninstall the entire cssu metapackage since it's still marked as a dependency for the testing version of the cssu)?

so whats the easy and simple way to enable AND disable portrait mode for the desktop? and only the desktop?

i remember the last time i enabled portrait mode, i ended up reflashing the device because a) it would rotate ALL the apps and b) i wasnt able to disable it at all.

basically, i want portrait mode on the desktop, but every other app should decide by itself and not be forced to rotate if it usually doesnt.

as stated in http://wiki.maemo.org/Community_SSU/FeaturesStable

gconftool-2 -s /apps/osso/hildon-desktop/ui_can_rotate -t bool true
enables what you want, if it's still not what you want run the following command to revert to the base state:
gconftool-2 -s /apps/osso/hildon-desktop/ui_can_rotate -t bool false

You can blacklist apps if you dont want to see them in portrait mode
Boemien made a great tread about this here
So if you enable forced rotation and add the apps you don't want to rotate, just put them in the blacklist, best of both worlds

There is a reason why it is only mentioned on the testing thread and also why it is not mentioned in http://wiki.maemo.org/Community_SSU/FeaturesStable
The version of hildon-home in Stable does not poperly support this, the patch will be added when it matured enough (current version in testing has problems adding image sets)

So I can only tell you to reflash, that features isn't yet supported in stable.
