Apps I miss most:
1. ucweb for compressed browsing and superb download manager
2. x-plore the best file manager for symbian. Filebox is cute, total commander is functional, I wish there's file manager which combines the best of those. I wish at least file/folder search and folder property check worked in filebox.
3. Ttpod simply amazing music player with support for lyrics download, album art download, lyrics display, amazing ui, lyrics bar over any other app(at top)
4. j2me environment with good performance, only because nokia decided to leave maemo
5. Nokia beta labs image viewer, can't remember the name.
6. IM Clients to choose from
OMG I am not good at remembering things, I will dig out my pc for must have app folder I had for symbian someday and might add more.

I'm surprised nobody has mentioned it yet, google maps. Every other smartphone seems to have it, it's so easy to use when you hit a button and say an address or a place you want to go to and it gives you a route.

A working implementation of PhoneME (J2ME/MIDP2) would be useful to run the plethora of mobile apps out there in a more native fashion, hopefully with full screen and rotation support.

A good on-device theme editor to change colours, icons, edit themes and graphics as well as fonts.

A stable navigation app, better than the installed OVI maps app, with the ability to use vector maps, stored locally. The best would be the ability to use the OpenStreetMaps vector data (NOT rendered tiles, like in Mappero etc.)

More or less, I'm wishing for Mappero with vector maps.

My current wishlist:

Photogrammetric modelling (RealTime) to measure and quantify
2d and 3d objects on site - the n900 would be perfect for this

Voice recognition - sounds like that is being worked on now
and probably will happen, but it aint here yet...

I can't believe this hasn't been mentioned yet (or maybe I missed it)

A BETTER PHOTO VIEWER

i normally don't like threads where someone is asking for some random app.
If people are kind, talented and and commited enough to develop, release and improve apps etc usually in their free time then we should be eternally grateful for what they give us.

but i would like to see...

An eco-drive app which read gps speed, and used gps and accelometer, and odb if present to assist in driving economically, like my daughters garmin does, and warns you when you are accellerating or braking harshly. odb could be used to measure fuel consumpsion.

A video editor similar to what is on symbian3, maemo is so missing one.

A port of the mythtv front end and the plugins, such as video, music etc. this may be possible using a stripped down easy debian image, dunno what performance would be like though.

I really miss browsing of samba network shares like you could with maemo4. i use wizard mounter, but it seems very clunky in comparision. duuno if there is anything already there.
