Thank you very much for all the info I just mistook your explanation of the situation as meaning that it wouldn't be worth it or something.

Thanks and regards,

@jdb2 I also bought a Nokia N900 in 2019 and asked the same question a week ago
It looks like we cannot have OTA updates with the mirrors but I did not get the technical reason behind it so I guess the OTA updates were done through another process with hardcoded Nokia server names and not using the customizable repositories from the Hildon Application Manager (nobody has confirmed it yet).
If you want to flash, you can find the download links in the thread I started: http://talk.maemo.org/showthread.php?t=100762

I do have the PR 1.3.1 firmware image, which I think was the last to be released by Nokia ( found it after much googling ). The file is named "RX-51_2009SE_21.2011.38-1_PR_COMBINED_MR0_ARM.bin". I did read that, strangely, some people found that the MD5 sum of the above file was the same as the PR 1.3 file. I also have the latest global eMMC firmware named "RX-51_2009SE_10.2010.13-2.VANILLA_PR_EMMC_MR0_ARM.bin". I guess I'll flash those and then install CSSU.

@jdb2 if you think the PR 1.3.1 links you found are from a trusted source, then you can share them, maybe it will be useful for other people. The CSSU includes PR 1.3.1 so flashing PR 1.3 would work too.

The checksum of PR 1.3 and 1.3.1 should be different, otherwise it would mean it is PR 1.3.
The sha256sum of my PR 1.3 image RX-51_2009SE_20.2010.36-2_PR_COMBINED_MR0_ARM.bin is
Code:
5c4140e5d45de86011a27a258d916280ab32d98277a986f68140a8f3b8802664
and the sha256sum of my eMMC image RX-51_2009SE_10.2010.13-2.VANILLA_PR_EMMC_MR0_ARM.bin is
Code:
be0a1c9fde0ccc281ef5337fdb31ea35332d32a51b40200fbff63803dc7fb5f0
I also found that the PR 1.3 is hosted on the domain name used for mirrors: http://maemo.muarf.org/tablets-dev/nokia_N900/ (but I don't know if the people who own the server are the same as maemo.org).

By the way, it looks like there is an error in the description of the PR 1.3 UK firmware, it is written "PR 1.3 version 10.2010.36-2" instead of "PR 1.3 version 20.2010.36-2".

I'll need to find the link -- assuming it still works. I have the file. I guess anyone can just PM me and I'll send it to them. Better would be some place to host the file, but I don't want to get in copyright trouble with Microsoft / Nokia, so, someone else will have to host it

Well, my image files are definitely different :

Code:
$ sha256sum -b RX-51_2009SE_21.2011.38-1_PR_COMBINED_MR0_ARM.bin
775fde934550e72dbe88404db390ad351fb409b1b9c1d22ecdeccf1fcaf5db07 *RX-51_2009SE_21.2011.38-1_PR_COMBINED_MR0_ARM.bin

Thanks for the heads up

As far as updates are concerned.
For the n900 (and it is pretty much the same for the n8x0...as far as their own particular official repos go....)
Once you are running pr 1.3 and cssu...
you will get cssu updates as / when they occur.
you will get software updates from the maemo reg. , testing, and developmental repos...
Use of testing and developmental repos are to be done with full knowledge of the potential for any issues which may result...
(since as programs are uploaded to the repos they go through trials and spend time in devel, then testing, and then fianlly ...if all bugs are ironed out they make it to the reg repos....some never get finished ...so it goes..but even still...most are quite usable.)

NOTE:
AS the individuals who are working on select and specific projects manage to upload any changes ...you would then receive updates to said version of that specific program.

Additional note:
You both seem sharp enough for the tool shed...
So I will just reiterate what everyone should know..
Whatever scale of learning or additional learning curve you are undertaking ....
Hurry it up...fast.
You are now ...like everyone else here..
part of the conscripted and Shanghaied "Maemo Support Team" ...
And so considering you two are bright light bulbs in the pack..
Expectations are you will lose your baby teeth shortly and will be fixing, innovating and doing what every other Maemoian does here..

Work on finishing the great Maemo Jaeger we intend to send to stomp Apple, Google and M$ flat

okay, i don't necessarily need usb to install maemo-leste, it is possible to install and configure uboot from fremantle and boot to the system on sdcard. actually thought of it right after writing the previous message, checked today.

maemo-leste lacks quite basic functionality on N900 it seems: https://leste.maemo.org/Nokia_N900#Status
