Good for you Texrat. I've been where your are and it takes a lot of effort to keep a positive attitude when you're out of work. In my experience it's always easier to find a job when you have one and easier yet is you've had that job over a year. At least that's been the case in the US. In Silicon Valley we expected high tech people to change jobs about every three years.

A little update for those who were following my job-to-job adventures.

I am now 1 month into my new job with a major US logistics service provider. My new role has elements of prior jobs but the nature is very new: I am software/hardware change management quality assurance in essence, although they call the department "Migration Control".

In this position I am a babysitter more or less for various groups implementing changes to IT infrastructure. It's funny in a way because a similar opportunity came up for maemo a while back (on a smaller scale of course) and I would have gladly taken it BUT they would not make the role global-- it had to be in California or Finland if I recall correctly. Which is ok because I'm sure it was not so much a virtual role as my last one was.

This new job is hectic (was designed for two people originally!) but at least I am learning how it is in the trenches. Most of all I am gaining a deeper appreciation and sympathy for programmers and the hell they deal with in the flaming region between business analysis and reboot. As a programmer myself I already felt that pain but at a distance since my work was never production.

Anyway, no idea how long I'll be in this gig but it's better than unemployment.

As far as my relationship with Nokia tablets, it's naturally much more distant now although I remain a heavy user and hardcore advocate. I just need to figure out where to direct my energies. I still believe my place is in between average consumers and the development teams since I can speak both languages fluently. It would sure be nice if something official opened up for that with Nokia. "Texrat, Tablet Evangelist". I like the sound of that...

What's wrong with beautiful, hot, smoggy, over-crowded California?

1 in 12 people in America have some form of hepatitis...I'd imagine California has something to do with that.
