A little more bad news for the HTC Sensation. The bootloader is indeed locked down:

Maybe HTC will jump on the 'unlocked' bandwagon in the next iteration of their product.

Netflix on Android + Google TV is a lethal combination.

Now, I don't subscribe to any services currently, but it seems that $7.99CAD/mo is a great price to be able to watch a wide selection of TV shows and Movies streamed effortlessly to my big screen.

I know, I know, I'm talking about stuff that others already are well aware of, but for me, it's new territory.

What's more, Google TV will be so much more than just 'TV' it has casual games that will keep me and my gf entertained, as well as access to various music services, the web. If I delve back into hardcore games, OnLive may be an option -- remember, the upcoming GTV will use Android 3.1 with USB host, so I can use an XBOX controller. Even something as simple as turning the TV into a large picture frame via a gallery slideshow is a very appealing application. It is shaping up to be the most competent set-top-box for the television on the market.

I've considered Roku, Vudu, etc, but couldn't justify the expenditure as I know that they were products destined for obsolescence moments after purchase. I even considered AppleTV, but was weary of being locked into Apple's ecosystem with a product that had limited functionality. I considered the DIY route, but the cost of the PC and hassle of setting it up was not something I was looking forward to.

I would easily pay $299 for GTV. At this price it's both cheap and a tremendous value.

Here's a good Google IO talk on Android and the NDK and how it's improved since its inception:

They offer a level headed view of Dalvik vs. the NDK:
- Dalvik is the premier environment for Android
- The NDK can be faster (eg. Assembly/NEON) but not necessarily
- Many develpers already know C/C++
- There are many OSS libs available for C/C++

A good talk on using the NDK in Android.

This Galaxy II is teasing. I want it. I want it now. I don't like android that much but the hardware seems top notch. I could live with android, maybe I could learn developing on that, and ubuntu is easy to run in a chroot. I don't know if I am able to wait for the Harmattan N950 device. I might buy the Galaxy II and forget about Nokia, Maemo, Meego and all this pitiful suffering of the last year. Pass to the dark side of the force, maybe it's not that bad.
When is the Galaxy II due to deliver in Europe?

I am not feeling that my Roku is particularly obsolete, and I would much rather pay $50 or so than $300. It will be some time before I catch up on all the movies Netflix carries.

Yes its a locked bootloader. But DAMN HTC can sell that thing in the video on the same page

I am back torn between the Samsung and this again. Was reading up on the xda forums about the Samsung and despite being an amazing phone there are some nasties in there as well.

I can afford to wait now because there is no stock for the IIS anywhere anymore.

already has, hasn't it? I hear an NFC version of the Galaxy II will release later this year too.
