I've had pretty bad experience with aftermarket batteries, but I'm sure that if we put our collective heads together, we can weed out the studs from the duds..

With that, I submit, exhibit a: a supposed 1700MAh beast from the east. I'm not sure if this will fit in the N900, or of its actual capacity (I assume the voltage is BL-5J equal -- to lazy to read).

Any thoughts?

I found a german ebay site which offers a similar product (too bad without picture) which claims to be 100% compatible with the 5800XM (and therefore with the n900) without being bigger in size.
I'll just buy one and write down my experience asap i'll get my n900

Here is the actual product: http://cgi.ebay.de/++-Power-Akku-LiP...QQcmdZViewItem
It claims to be 100% compatible with the original battery:
100% kompatibel mit Originalakku (OEM)

If it's Chinese, you can drop 25% of the stated rating easy.

I've had good experience with Seidio and Yoobao branded extended batteries.

That is curious as its showing as Lithium Polymer but everything I have read claims the N900 battery is standard Lithium Ion.

If so and the rating is accurate, that could be a MUCH superior battery to the official one supplied with the N900. Its a big question of IF its accurate though.

Mind you, look at this one:

Makes me want to try to convince my friend who owns a 5800 to get one and see if its any good.

The N900 sometimes goes through it's battery like crazy, while sometimes it's just fine for a day. In any case a bigger battery would be a welcome sight.

Wondering if anyone has gotten around to actually testing this battery! Gold + 1930mah MUST be a winner.

Let us know if you try it in the N900 and it works ok. Would it be likely to damage the N900?

OK, I am asking:

How will this fit with the N900's current back cover? If 28% more mah, must be similar level of size increase- I see, the same claims as some sellers did with the G1. If same size, plenty of no-size change, placebo batteries on G1 that claimed more mah and they did not- also on eBay.

I would be VERY concerned about a battery that claimed such mAH increase without corresponding bulk added. Makes me wonder if the casing material, for instance, is robust enough. Nokia over-engineers this factor for safety (hence some of the cost).

While I'm not going to say that 1930mAh battery is indeed a 1930mAh, in the same packaging as a standard 13xxmAh battery that comes with the N900, it's all about battery technology.

For example, look at these batteries:

http://www.odysseybatteries.com/

These are the same sized batteries as your "regular" car battery, but provide up to three times the Amperage of standard batteries. I guess what I'm saying is, don't judge a battery by it's cover, as it were.
