When I log in to my openSUSE server with SSH and use Yast, some parts of the screen don't seem to update properly (more specifically, only the parts of the screen that have changed are updated, and the bits that used to display info but should now be blank still have the old info shown).

I think I've seen weird behaviour in other CLI programs too.
  • Can anyone else confirm this behaviour?
  • Any ideas if this is a problem with the curses library, Yast on small screens, or something else?

Yes! I've been having this problem ever since I remember (on Jolla) and it's the main thing that prevents me from using the terminal for more than an occasional one-liner.

I have no clue about the cause, but any solution would be greatly appreciated.

EDIT: It happens even in nano or when you are writing a regular command. Not sure what triggers it, but happens almost every time you want to write something longer.

Well that makes me feel slightly better! Can anyone running Sailfish on n9 or Nexus 5 confirm this behaviour? Seems like an easy way to confirm/discount a hardware specific problem.

Thinking about this, it could also be a bug in fingerterm. Do you have an n9, and if so does it behave in a similar way?

edit: I've opened a bug on github, feel free to add comments...

I recall having similar problem with Fingerterm on N9 when using Mosh. It's been some time though so I'm not really sure.

Check http://talk.maemo.org/showthread.php?t=95737
Another option is fingerterm terminfo file, but causes problems when ssh to a standard term, hopefully they include the fixes in next release
