i am a little new to the internet tablets, and i am getting a n800 for xmas. my question is: since the release of OS2008 is a beta, should i still complete the upgrade or should i wait until it's official?

and if i go foward with the upgrade will i be able to update it eventually to a stable version or will i have to flash it again?

and final, when i flash, will i need to reload all the apps i had installed from before?

thanks.

1) wait

2) else reflash

3) and reload all

If you're getting it on Xmas, odds are that there will be a non-beta release for the N800 by then, unless I misunderstand the prevailing winds.

I think I would recommend wait. I myself did upgrade and is kind of happy, not very very happy. 2008 beta bred newlife to my 1 month old N800 and also faster in many ways. But VNC client/Skype/Videocenter/Gnumeric(?) are NOT ready is a big problem.

When you get it, make sure your version of OS2007 is current (v. 4.2007.38-2). Many n800s currently available have the previous version, which can corrupt SDHC cards. So in any case, you will need to flash.

There's no real need to upgrade to 2008 now, unless you're porting an OS2007 app.

I didn't necessarily need to upgrade, but I appreciate the speed boost, better power management, Realtek 8150 USB > Ethernet driver, DTMF dialing from the SIP client, and there's probably a few other things I'm forgetting at the moment

There's certainly bugs, so if you can't handle any of the reported bugs, I'd avoid the upgrade for now.

For me, it's much better than OS2007.

I'm using 1.7.62.48.3 on my upgraded N800 and Skype does not seem to work as well before - it keeps crashing.

I would recommend holding off on OS2008 (and updating to the latest OS2007) until the official release of OS2008.

Mine craps out upon dialing a land line. How is yours?
1.7.62.48.5 is my version. Is previous version better?
